We maintain an internal surge capability of staff who may be called at short notice to support an activation of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE). Training and support will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to develop crisis management skills.

**Job description**:

- The Technology & Science Insights unit provides evidence to the Office for Science and Technology Strategy, to strengthen the government's ability to understand and shape emerging science and technology to benefit the UK.
- The Emerging Technology team within TSI identifies and analyses emerging technologies that could affect Government policy. We aim to inform policy makers about new technologies to manage risks and opportunities to benefit the UK. You will lead rapid technology assessments, developing your research, stakeholder engagement, policy and project management skills. You will have the opportunity to engage with leading academic and industry experts as well as senior policymakers as you deliver high quality and engaging reports that impact policy. You will gain first hand experience of the use of evidence in policy making. Recent assessments have included synthetic genomics, 4D printing, and digital twins. The role requires close working with our analysts to commission the required technology analysis and there is an opportunity, if you have an analytical background, to lead and develop analysis yourself.-
**Person specification**:

- Providing advice to the Government Chief Scientific Adviser and senior officials.
- Planning and delivering projects, including cross government engagement and undertaking research and analysis to produce high quality reports on policy-relevant technologies.
- Assembling and coordinating contributions from external experts, including senior figures in academia and industry.
- Supporting capability development inside and outside of the team with opportunity to assist with management of interns.

**Skills and Experience**

**Essential**
- An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in a scientific, engineering or mathematical field including social

sciences.
- Demonstrable interest in science and technology and/or the role of evidence in policy making.
- Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively in a variety of formats.
- Ability to conduct high quality research and analysis.
- Ability to work within a team drawing on strengths of colleagues with different skills and experience.**Desirable**
- Project management experience.-
