**About the Role**:
Greensand Surgery recognises the benefit of good teamwork and are seeking a Medical Receptionist to join their busy team in Ampthill.
There’s more to our Receptionist roles than answering the phone and making appointments. In this essential front-line role at the practice, you would be responsible for undertaking a wide range of reception duties and the provision of general support to the multidisciplinary team.
Duties can include but are not limited to, greeting and directing patients, effective use of the appointment system, booking appointments, processing of information and assisting patients as required. To act as the central point of contact for patients, the distribution of information, messages and enquiries for the clinical team, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers.
**The main responsibilities of the role include**:
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system
- Welcome patients and visitors to the practice, directing requests appropriately
- Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointments
- Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately
- Signpost patients to the correct service Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies
- Read code data on System one
- Photocopy documentation as required Data entry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required
- Input data into the patient’s healthcare records as necessary
- File and store records as required
- Scanning of patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patient’s healthcare records
- The processing of changes to patient registration, deduction of record and new patient registration.
- Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested
- Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
- Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
- Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards

- Ideally previous medical / healthcare receptionist experience
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- You will have excellent communication skills with a clear and polite telephone manner.
- You will work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times.
- You will have experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations.
- You will be confident to work as part of a team and be able to think on your feet independently.
- Strong IT and administration skills.
Some flexibility is required as you will sometimes need to work additional/alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
