Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner

The purpose of the role will be to undertake a period of training, under the supervision of an identified expert clinician to prepare for progression to Advanced Clinical Practitioner (Band 8A) role. This will involve undertaking and successfully completing work based competencies and an MSc in Advanced Practice Apprenticeship.

By the end of year 2 Trainees will be expected to have successfully completed both year 1 and year 2 academic modules and assessments which include; clinical examination, managing patients conditions, research methods, prescribing, issues in advanced practice and associated competencies, according to the University programme and individual learner needs.

The level of direct supervision will be high in year 1. In year 2, the Trainee will be expected to progress towards achieving all advanced level skills, and is able to demonstrate ability to consistently perform those skills at an advanced level. This will be reflected in the clinical supervisor's ongoing assessment. There will be less direct supervision and more delegated practice during year 2. All Trainees will undergo a period of consolidation and be able to demonstrate they have the skills, knowledge and experience to meet the Band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) job description; this will include the award of an MSc in Advanced Practice.
