We’re looking for three RVNs to work together in leading our team here at Colinton Cattery. You will be fundamental to the allocation and conduct of work within the cattery including the supervision of the Cattery Assistants and volunteers most of whom are Vet Students
- either nursing or medicine.
Our level of cat care is exceptional and we pride ourselves in offering a safe home from home environment for all our cats in resident with owners knowing their cat(s) are loved, cared for and monitored as if they were our own.
We are a fully licensed family run business, with owners on site. We have grown and developed over the past four years into the leading cattery in Edinburgh. With over 2600 customers we provide a wonderful service to cats and owners alike.
What you’ll be doing:
The RVN Lead role carries more of the people management and operational management aspects;
that said all three roles include
- Operational running of the cattery in accordance with DEFRA’s higher level standards, including:
- Day to day cat care
- Day to day supervision of the Cat Care Assistants and volunteers including the allocation of duties, coaching, training and providing support
- Ensuring all health and safety measures and procedures are observed and adhered to by staff, volunteers and the general public
- Where necessary, liaising with our affiliated veterinary surgeon in the treatment of any cat requiring veterinary care including ensuring that treatments and medications are administered in the prescribed quantity at the specified intervals
- occasionally this involves you taking the cat to a vet appointment.
- Conducting non-veterinary health assessments, in collaboration with other staff, of cats entering, residing at and leaving the cattery, ensuring and checking the completion of all associated reports
- Identifying and preparing a suitable diet for all cats in the cattery
- Carrying out routine cat behaviour observations and implementing behavioural training plans as directed by our Behaviour and Welfare Advisor where needed
- Administration of bookings and payments.
- Opening and closing including reception being ready to welcome cats and customers
- Organising staffing rotas in line with demand
- Checking in and checking out cats
- Receiving of deposits and payments
- Stock control including ordering of supplies and equipment
- Receiving and checking deliveries
- Waste control
- Identifying and requesting of any maintenance requirements
- Covering one another’s holidays - bringing additional paid hours
You’ll have:
- RVN qualification
- Proven ability to lead, supervise and engage a capable team
- Experience of working with cats within the animal care/welfare industry (essential)
- Experience of working with the general public
- Sound literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to work within a team
- Full UK driving licence
