**OVERALL RESPONSIBILITES**

PRIMARY:

- To work in partnership with Young people and support them in the transition into independence and adulthood.
- Empower and support Young People to access services and external agencies when and where needed.
- To aid Young People in Social Inclusion and successfully securing home/tenancy in their own name.
- To provide a quality service to Young People working within government guidelines and The Sanctuary Project policies and procedures.
- To respect and maintain the confidential nature of the work.
- To support young people to learn and develop their independent living skills.

YOUNG PEOPLE
- To establish good relationships with young people based on confidence, trust, understanding and mutual respect, setting a good example to all staff.
- To encourage young people to maintain socially acceptable standards of behaviour.
- To provide all young people with guidance and counselling of a personal and social nature.
- To take a share of responsibility for the safe supervision of young people by exercising adequate control.
- The Sanctuary Project is committed to safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of all young people in our care. All staff have a key role and responsibility in this area.

Staff Group
- To complete the required training.
- To attend and participate in staff meetings as appropriate.
- To participate in appropriate in-service training.

ASSESSMENT, RECORDING AND REPORTING
- To record young people’s progress and development.
- To contribute towards young people’s progress reports as required.
- To ensure that all night logs and checks are completed.
- To report to the staff team and all other relevant professionals the events of the night.

RESOURCES
- To make effective and efficient use of the resources available within the Project and to be aware of resources provided by the Sanctuary Project and those within the community.
- To maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the young people’s living areas and social areas.

MANAGEMENT, ORGANISATION AND ADMINISTRATION
- To monitor objectively the quality of relationships between young people, between staff and young people and between staff with the constant aim of improvement.
- To ensure that full and complete casework records of young people’s progress are maintained and that sound decisions are made and carried out.
- To complete records of conversations, incidents and phone calls regarding young people.
- To prepare and keep up to date young person files and records.

GENERAL DUTIES
- To perform any other reasonable task that management may ask from time to time.
- To monitor CCTV, keep the building and young people safe. Ensuring that all young people have returned safely to the Project.
- Report missing young people to the Police and support the Police in their investigations.
- Ensure all information is recorded and relevant information is shared with Social Workers and/or Personal Advisors as well as Emergency Duty Team.
- To encourage young people into a good bedtime routine.
- To wake young people where needed for daytime activities.
- To complete regular checks of the property and phones, ensuring information/observations are documented.
- To be willing to work at weekends and bank holidays when required.
- To work in partnership with Local Authorities and external agencies to ensure the young person’s needs are being met and a high standard of service is being delivered.
- To empower and support young people to access services and external agencies as and when needed.
- To provide support, guidance and advice to young people in all areas of daily life. This includes budgeting, health, careers, education, relationships, culture, identity, managing accommodation maintenance and safety, amongst many more areas.
- To encourage independence and self-care skills.
- To ensure the young person’s views are taken into account and acted on appropriately. To act as their advocate.
- To support young people in meetings or visits to support agencies such as CAMH’s, medical appointments, reviews.
- To liaise with the young person’s Social Worker and/or Personal Advisor, providing them with updates and information regarding your work with the young person as well as any concerns.
- Ensure you are kept up to date with each young person’s files and information.
- To be an excellent role model to the young person
- To be encouragers and positive in their outlook
- To work on your own initiative
- Have the ability to resolve conflict effectively by risk managing.
- To keep young people within boundaries and challenge inappropriate behaviour in a safe and constructive way.
- Ask others when you need help.
- Complete cleaning tasks.
