sports societies at Pembroke College,

THE ROLE

The Head Coach and Co-ordinator of College - working with the College Boatman, Kevin

**Qualifications: **

UKCC coaching qualification would be advantageous. 

Power boat licence would be advantageous. 

Ability to tow boats to off-Cam races would be advantageous.

**Work Experience: **

Previous experience of coaching rowing teams is essential.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**: 

It is essential to co-ordinate with the College Boatman regarding rowing equipment and

facilities at the Boathouse, as he has responsibility for these areas. 

Co-ordinate on a regular basis with the PCBC Senior Committee (President, Senior

Treasurer), and the PCBC Junior Committee (Overall Captain, Men’s and Women’s Captains

and Vice-Captains, Lower Boat captains, etc). 

Delivering coaching to PCBC crews in the role of head coach. Co-ordinating other coaches

(both paid and alumni volunteers) as required and managing the budget for such additional

paid coaching. 

Improving the standard of PCBC rowing through: 

Reviewing current training practices and plans of PCBC boats, updating any practices

to maximise the progression of rowers and enjoyment of the sport, whilst balancing

members academic commitments. 

Giving expert technical feedback to crews, including the use of video analysis, where

the role holder feels this is helpful. 

Aiming to coach all PCBC crews at least once per week, to provide consistency in

technique and approach.

JOB DESCRIPTION CONT’D. 

Enduring sufficient education around nutrition is provided for optimal training and

performance. 

Aiming to sort out coaching for the upcoming term in advance of the term starting,

and ideally during the term before. 

Recruiting and training of coxswains. 

Increasing participation of college members through: 

Performing a significant proportion of the coaching required for novicing, and

developing a system for optimising the novice training (e.g. develop a ‘checklist’

system whereby rowers and coxes are given personal feedback as well as that of the

crew and can have a real sense of progression). 

Increasing the presence of the Boat Club in College life through organising PCBC

events (e.g. open days for the Boat Club or mixed fitness/yoga etc. with other sports

clubs). 

Organisation of lower-commitment boats open to all members of the College - (as

discussed and agreed with the crew captains). 

Setting training programmes for each crew, as agreed between the role holder, the crew

captains and the crew coaches for the term (at the discretion of the crew captain, other

members of the boat in question could be involved in this). The draft-training programme

should be written by the role holder, before the group would review this. The programme
