On Train Steward

The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are at the heart of the Snowdonia National Park and a major tourist attraction in North Wales. Our offer, aimed firmly at the tourism market place, stands out as being best in class. We operate trains daily from late March to the end of October.

We are looking for a number of people to work on our trains on either the Ffestiniog Railway or the Welsh Highland Railway.

**We can offer you**:

- £10.42 per hour for applicants aged 23 and over (NLW / NMW for age applies); £8.00 per hour for under 21s
- Seasonal contract from 20th March or 1st April 2023 to the 5th November 2023, with the possibility of extension to the start of January 2024
- The pro rata equivalent of 29 days paid holiday, inclusive of all bank and public holidays

Key duties involve greeting passengers, providing information and telling factual stories about the railways, selling guidebooks, and assisting with the provision of basic refreshments and the hamper service. In addition on Welsh Highland Railway services stewards will be providing an at seat trolley refreshment service.

Positions may be based in Porthmadog, Caernarfon, or other starting points as required.

**Core Skills**:

- ‘Front of House’ position so a cheerful and helpful disposition is essential
- Must be presentable and approachable at all times
- Smart appearance following dress code
- Able to communicate information in a clear and friendly manner
- Pro-active and able to work on own initiative
- Must be numerate, literate and have basic computer skills

This is a predominantly Welsh speaking area and the Company operates a bilingual policy. The ability to converse in Welsh is therefore desirable for these posts. Knowledge of locations on the Railways and their use by visitors is required for this position, knowledge of Porthmadog and / or Caernarfon and the surrounding area would be an advantage.

Applicants for this position must have the existing right to work in the UK.
