**Full-Time - 35 Hours Per Week**

**UOE07 - Salary: £39,347 - £46,974**

**Number of Posts: 2
**The opportunity**:
The Career Launch postdoctoral fellowships aim to bridge the challenging transition from PhD to externally funded postdoctoral fellowships or equivalent. They are aimed at promising applicants who have completed a PhD but are not yet in an open-ended research role and have not yet been awarded a major funded postdoctoral fellowship (such as those offered by the British Academy or the Leverhulme Trust).

These specific fellowships in European languages will support two researchers who have been awarded PhDs at the University of Edinburgh to develop broad research visions in fields of relevance to the work of DELC over the course of a year.

This advertisement is open to applicants with a research background of relevance to any of the six sections within DELC (interdisciplinary profiles covering multiple languages/sections are also welcome):

- French and Francophone Studies.
- German.
- Italian.
- Russian Studies.
- Scandinavian Studies.
- Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies.

Projects with a European dimension are very welcome, as are projects focusing on other parts of the world beyond Europe that are also of relevance for our approach to language-based area studies.

The two available positions are full-time (35 hours a week), and each is available for a fixed term of 12 months from 1 st July 2024.

Please note that while the School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures operates with a hybrid working model, all teaching is delivered in person and on campus.

**Your skills and attributes for success**:

- PhD awarded (or viva recently passed) at the University of Edinburgh in the past 8 years in a relevant field of expertise.
- Recent record of outstanding research activities in the field and a clear research plan for the duration of the fellowship.
- Commitment and demonstrable success in delivering effective university teaching in areas of relevance to European languages and cultures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and in at least one of the other following languages: Basque, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, or Swedish.
- Potential to design and lead supervisory activities for undergraduate students.

**As a valued member of our team you can expect**:
A competitive salary of **£39,347 - £46,974**
