This role is based at our WTS in Barry/Cowbridge and there are shift patterns of 8-4 or 9-5

**MAJOR PURPOSE OF POST***:
To assist with the segregation and storage of recyclable material prior to treatment, resale and reuse and the bulking, storage and loading of green and residual waste.

**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- The job description refers to the principal duties and responsibilities of the Post. It does not necessarily list in detail all the tasks required to carry out these duties and responsibilities._
- To assist with the segregation and storage of recyclable material at Council recycling and waste facilities in preparation of treatment, resale and or reuse. This will involve hand-picking items from a sorting conveyor and removing any contamination, prior to baling.
- To operate machinery such as shovel loaders, and forklift trucks to manage recycling and waste on site[s] and ensure material is stored safely within the permitted levels.
- To offload collection vehicles either manually or with the use of machinery and ensure that loads are discharged safely and stored within designated areas.
- To unload and or store discharged wastes in bays, compounds, or storage buildings to safe working levels and to load bulk haulage vehicles as required.
- To assist the Operational Team Leader, maintain equipment and facilities on site[s] such as the weighbridge, vehicle wash units, sorting and baling equipment and any site-specific facility that receives, sorts or stores Recycling or Waste material.
- To adhere to the site[s] permitting and fire prevention requirements as directed by the Operational Team Leader.
- To wear the designated personal protective equipment including any promotional material and to actively engage with the Health and Safety requirements of the site[s] and any necessary training or safety inspections.
- To maintain a safe working environment and keep the site free of litter and debris and to remove any spillages of waste that are discarded or created.
- To ensure that the internal facilities of the welfare and office unit is cleaned and maintained as required.
- To assist the Waste Compliance Officer & Operational Team Leader with recording site usage, movement of materials and any associated paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with the Council’s Financial Regulations, Standing Orders, Policies and Procedures
- To implement the principles of the Council’s Equal Opportunity Policy whilst carrying out the above duties
- To adhere to Health and Safety legislation / relevant Council policies and procedures and to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be adversely affected by your acts / omissions.
