Hartlepool, United Kingdom EDF Limited Full time

**Independent Nuclear Safety Reviewer**

Are you an experienced nuclear professional with operations experience looking for a new challenge in the Hartlepool area? Like us, are compliance and safety your overriding priorities in the workplace? If you're looking for an exciting new opportunity to work in the world of Nuclear during a crucial period of change, this position may be for you

**The opportunity**

Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) personnel provide independent assessments of company compliance with its nuclear, radiological and industrial safety, security, health, and environmental (SSHE) obligations, and whether they are operating in a manner that promotes high levels of SSHE performance.

A position is available for an INA Evaluator (Independent Nuclear Safety Review (INSR)) at Hartlepool Power Station. Positions may also be available at other nuclear power stations.

This vacancy is for an evaluator to undertake the role of Independent Nuclear Safety Review (INSR). This involves a daily independent assessment of the status of nuclear safety, using independent sources to challenge the station’s nuclear safety performance; ensuring defence in depth is optimised.

If this role sounds right for you, we’d love to hear from you

**Pay, benefits and culture**

We can offer a competitive salary ranging from £71,101 - £84,892 dependent on experience and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined Collective Agreement Contract as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. This is a full-time position.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

**What you’ll be doing**

As the internal regulator for our sites, we strive to be influencers in the business, demonstrating role model behaviours related to safety and compliance and representing a passion for nuclear safety. This is an incredibly diverse and demanding role covering all aspects of the business at Hartlepool, including the provision of advice to senior station management on how culture, behaviour and everyday working practices affect operational safety performance.

You’ll be carrying out day-to-day assessments of nuclear operations and plant state, on-site inspections, reviews, and data analysis to identify shortfalls and adverse nuclear assurance trends, as well as the instigation of necessary improvements. This is with the aim of ensuring the station remains compliant with its legal obligations and continues to improve its safety performance.

You will have experience of nuclear Operations (being a current or previous Duly Authorised Person or equivalent experience or training e.g. military) and will develop into the role of Independent Nuclear Safety Reviewer (INSR). The INSR role involves a daily independent assessment of the status of nuclear safety, using independent sources to challenge the station’s nuclear safety performance, ensuring defence in depth is optimised.

**Who you are**

To be successful for this role, you will be qualified to HNC (or equivalent) as a minimum and a relevant Degree in a technical or engineering field (or acceptable equivalent) may be an advantage.

You should ideally have significant experience of nuclear operations (possibly being a current or previous Duly Authorised Person (DAP) (Control room DAP at a civil Nuclear Power Facility - EDF Energy or worldwide), or equivalent experience or training (eg. Military or emergency services). Preferably 5+ years track record of implementing, advising or regulating SSHE arrangements within the nuclear, or other engineering orientated and highly regulated, industry (including defence) with an ability to think ‘outside of the box’ to identify trends, behaviours and insights that could be effective at helping improve SSHE performance.

You’ll posses good analytical skills to support critical reviews of performance, have clear, concise communication skills to ensure effective delivery of verbal or written feedback and the ability to build relationships and team working at all levels in order to establish networks and optimise their use for influencing. You’ll have the character to deliver difficult messages under potentially challenging situations with a proven track record of liaising with external SSHE regulators would be an advantage.

Applications close for this role 17th March 2024.
