This is an exciting opportunity to join the Salisbury Specialist Palliative Care Service as Receptionist. The Receptionist role provides an integral part in the running of the hospice service. The first point of contact with patients, carers and staff, contacting the service either in person or via telephone. The postholder ensures the smooth running of the reception, providing administrative support to the medical teams, whilst engaging with patients / visitors in a calm and sensitive manner.

This can be a busy role and the postholder will need to manage competing demands, whilst ensuring the need to provide a sensitive, mature and compassionate service to patients/relatives dealing with a life limiting illness.

The postholder will work within the administrative team, answering calls, welcoming visitors and undertaking administration duties, including receipt of deliveries, reporting and tracking of faults and repairs, submission of stock orders, volume management of hospital notes, data entry using the Trust and Hospice patient management systems.

They will provide clerical support to the clinical teams, and work in collaboration with nursing staff, ensuring ADT (Admission, Discharge, and Transfer) is kept up to date, booking of patient transport and tele tracking.

- Answers telephones, prioritises calls and disseminates information verbally and via message books thus relieving staff from additional interruptions where appropriate and assists in the continuity of care
- Welcomes all visitors to the Hospice, issues car permits as appropriate and shows visitors to the Ward where a volunteer is not available to do this. Acts as the 'first point of call' for the Hospice.
- In collaboration with nursing staff, ensure ADT (Admission, Discharge, and Transfer) is kept up to date and booking of patient transport and tele tracking. Record patient death details.
- In liaison with the Admin team undertake basic administration duties, including receipt of deliveries, reporting and tracking of faults and repairs, submission of stock orders, volume management of hospital notes, data entry using the Trust and Hospice patient management systems.
- Provision of general clerical support for the medical/clinical teams.
- Maintain stock levels of stationery and stationery packs for use by the clinical team.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times. Deal with confidential and sensitive information about patients. Adhere to Policies and Statutory Health and Safety requirements of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
- To maintain patient safety through rigorous and consistent compliance with Trust policies for the prevention and control of infection, including hand hygiene. To undertake appropriate mandatory training and updates in infection prevention and control.
- To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in compliance with Trust and staff responsibilities under Section 11 of the Children Act 2004; to follow Trust safeguarding children and child protection policies and guidelines and to undertake appropriate mandatory training and updates in safeguarding children/child protection. By following Trust policies in relation to safeguarding adults, staff will ensure that they work with other agencies to protect all adults from abuse at any time.
