Location: Sellafield, West Cumbria
The Security Operator is responsible for providing a professional security service across the Sellafield Site, to ensure compliance with Nuclear Industries Security Regulations 2003 (NISR 2003) and Nuclear Site Security Plan (NSSP).
Responsibilities include:
- Being accountable to the Security Operations Team Leader to ensure safe, secure and compliant operations whilst enabling business objectives to the required agreed standards and expectations, allowing for appropriate segregation of duties from other security staff and operating functions across the site.
- Delivering security operational activities in a safe and secure manner as directed by the security operations team leader.
- Operating and controlling all access/egress to and from security sensitive buildings and areas via building perimeter doors and gates and report and recording any unsafe conditions.
- The control and use of security keys for Nuclear Material (NM) stores and security access points, including the completion of key musters to specified timescales.
- Supporting cross site NM transfers on the Sellafield site.
- Performing security operator regulatory and assurance checks in accordance with written instructions and reports any deviations from expected findings.
- Provision of and control of Sellafield Ltd security furniture for classified information, including ensuring classified information custodians and others are briefed in the correct use of security furniture.
- Conducting PIDS (Perimeter Intruder Detection System) testing on various site security boundaries, formally recording results.
- Assisting in local plant and site exercises ensuing all learning is captured.
- Assisting in the review of operations instructions and procedures and use the red penning process to highlight shortfalls in operations documentation.
- Supporting the training of other security operators within the team.
- Interfacing and communicating with ONR Site Inspectors, Protective Security Advisors (PSAs), Duly Authorised Persons, Safe System Controllers, Civil Nuclear Constabulary inducing the Police Control Room and as and when required.
- Essential Skills- Minimum of 2 GCSEs Grade 4 (Grade C) in Mathematics and English. NB: Functional Skills Level 2 will also be considered as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (Grade C).
- Good communications skills.
- Ability to achieve Developed Vetting clearance - high levels of integrity, values and trustworthiness, this is a mandatory requirement.
- Ability to be included on the Atomic List to ensure maintenance of Confidential Document Records (CDR).
- Capable of attaining Radiological Worker Status.
- Demonstrate effective team working skills and the ability to work on their own.
- Desirable Skills:
- Experience of working in a security environment.
- Understanding of the key principles of Security and Resilience and how it impacts on other areas of site.
- Knowledge and understanding of Sellafield Site layout and key facilities.
- Self-motivated with high levels of drive and energy.
- Be capable of identify and implementing local improvements within their area of work.
