Newport, United Kingdom Isle of Wight NHS Trust Full time

Clinical Coding is an often unknown yet vital and integral function within the NHS. Essentially Clinical Coding is the translation of clinical information into standardised codes that are used in a variety of ways including NHS funding, casemix planning, benchmarking, clinical governance, research and monitoring of health trends to name but a few And as such it is essential that each coder follows strict national guidelines, maintains a high accuracy rate and keeps up to date with all training aspects.

Training is a large part of this role and the requirement of attendance on the Clinical Coding Standards Course is mandatory. Ongoing training is required throughout the year on various coding speciality courses, all of which are undertaken by our Approved Coding Trainer and done on site or virtually. As this is a non-accredited Coding role, there is no requirement for applicants to have the Clinical Coding Qualification nor will there be any expectation of obtainment of this within this role.

This role requires an individual who is driven, pays meticulous attention to detail and has a passion to succeed. Coding is a wonderful opportunity for those who love the world of medicine and surgery but don’t want to be on the front line.

The coding team consist of 14 members and have a “work family” environment; this is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of that. I would encourage anyone considering this role to get in touch with myself to understand the role and department in greater detail.
