We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious professional to lead and take forward the next phase of our development.

You will have held a managerial post in a health and/or social care setting, with both staff management and budgetary responsibilities.

You will be able to demonstrate how your work has benefited service users and made a tangible and measurable contribution towards achieving your organisation’s objectives.

You will be resourceful and innovative, willing to explore new ways to capture the views and opinions of Wakefield District residents, particularly those experiencing health inequalities, and translate these into actionable healthcare improvements.

You will have experience of engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and have a track record of involvement in both strategic and operational partnerships to achieve shared ambitions.

You will possess well-developed communication and influencing skills and be prepared to speak truth to power where necessary.

Above all, you will be passionate about improving public services and providing the residents of Wakefield District with the very best possible health and social care.

The post offers fully flexible working, with mínimal requirements to attend our offices in the centre of Wakefield. Some travel around the district will be necessary. A salary of around £45,000 is on offer, with other benefits.

Responsible for: Team of 10

Budget: c. £450,000

Hours: 37.5 per week

Location: The Plex, 15 Margaret Street, Wakefield WF1 2DQ

Flexible / hybrid working available

**Salary**: £45,000 per annum

Pension contribution: 5% employer contribution

Benefits: 28 days holiday per annum

Purpose

To lead the operational delivery and service impact of Healthwatch Wakefield, ensuring efficient operations, effective community engagement, and compliance with contractual obligations. This role involves comprehensive leadership over various teams and functions, including engagement with volunteers, research projects, and advocacy initiatives, with a direct line management responsibility for the Business Support Officer, Communications Officer, additional contract team members, and the Team Manager.

Core Responsibilities

**1. Operational Leadership and Service Delivery**:

- Guide the day-to-day operations of Healthwatch Wakefield, aligning activities with strategic objectives and ensuring the efficient delivery of services.
- Collaborate with the trustee board, team members, and stakeholders in planning and implementing the annual strategic plan.
- Oversee all aspects of staff management, including recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.

**2. Impact Evaluation and Reporting**:

- Develop and maintain evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of Healthwatch Wakefield's initiatives on health and care services, using these insights for strategic development and stakeholder communication.

**3. Contract Management and Partnerships**:

- Ensure the achievement of contract deliverables, maintain proactive relationships with commissioners and partners, and fulfil reporting requirements.

**4. Team Leadership and Development**:

- Provide direct line management to key staff members, including the Business Support Officer, Team Manager, Communications Officer, and additional contract team members. While the Team Manager oversees the day-to-day management of advocacy, core Healthwatch staff, and volunteers, ultimate responsibility for service delivery lies with the Head of Service Delivery.
- Set clear objectives, promote a collaborative work environment, and facilitate professional growth within the team.

**5. Financial oversight and budget management**
- In partnership with the Trustee Board / Treasurer / Chair, manage Healthwatch Wakefield's finances, including the creation, implementation, and evaluation of the annual budget. Ensuring allocation and management of resources to optimise organisational impact and sustainability, while maintaining compliance with funding conditions.

**6. Community Engagement and Advocacy**:

- Lead the strategy to engage the community, ensuring Healthwatch Wakefield captures a wide range of voices and experiences, and translate these into actionable healthcare improvements.

**7. Information and Communication**:

- Overall responsibility for the Information and Signposting service, ensuring community access to accurate resources, and oversee the management of internal data systems.
- Direct the creation of communications and reports that effectively showcase the achievements and impact of Healthwatch Wakefield to stakeholders.

**8. Governance and Trustee Board Support**:

- Support the trustee board in governance matters, ensuring effective communication and alignment with the organisational mission and strategic objectives.
