**Donor Care Supervisor**

**Job Summary**

We need a flexible, customer-focused person to provide direct supervision to Donor Carers who in turn welcome and support volunteers giving blood during blood donor sessions. You will report to the Area Session Manager working in conjunction with the Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure the highest standard of operational and clinical supervision of session activities.

To succeed you will need previous experience of dealing with the public, excellent communication skills, be able to demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills and the ability to work under pressure and deal with ever changing workloads. You will also need to be confident with digital technology to manage donor and staff processes eg electronic rosters and hand-held devices.

All Donor Care Supervisors must be formally assessed as proficient in all Donor Carer skills and maintain proficiency in order to supplement session activities as necessary.

As part of the role you will be required to travel to various locations so a valid driving licence would be an advantage.

**Main duties of the job**

In this role you will work as part of a multi-skilled team to provide a professional, caring, customer focused service to our volunteer blood donors, supporting the Sister/Charge Nurse in the direct supervision of all Donor Carer staff. Your responsibilities will include:

- Working with the Sister / Charge Nurse supervising all on-session activity, including supervising the vehicle load and unload, the session set up and pack down and related paperwork
- Working as part of the leadership team
- Providing off-session support, through the provision of a range of administrative activities required to support the successful operation of the team and their sessions
- Supporting the Sister / Charge Nurse in organising session activities and deploying the team to ensure that donor throughput is as efficient and customer focussed as possible and in particular that every donor receives a warm welcome, their needs are identified, respected and valued and they are all thanked and encouraged to return.
- Leading by example and maintaining Donor Carer proficiency and deploying these skills when working on session on a daily basis.
- Handling blood bags, needles and a range of equipment (objects up to 13 kgs) on a regular basis

As blood donation takes place in a variety of locations, you will be required to undertake long journeys (sometimes up to 2 hours) in our vehicles (this applies to mobile teams not posts based permanently in the Donor Clinics). You will also be required to work variable hours and days, including long days, evenings, weekend and bank holidays with appropriate notice of the rota.

**About You**

**Experience and Knowledge**
- Formally assessed as proficient in all Donor Carer skills including monitoring & managing donations, setting up & setting down a session, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance, Standard Operating Procedures & associated session tasks, delivering quality care and service to donors, Donor Adverse Events Reporting, session administration, donor health screening including haemoglobin estimation training (basic)
- Demonstrates leadership and supervisory skills
- Experience of delivering excellent quality care preferably in a clinical environment
- Experience of dealing with sensitive or confidential matters and an understanding of how this applies to the role
- Experience of working with Information Technology information technology such as digital hand-held devices and Microsoft Office packages

**Qualifications and Training**
- Good standard of education - GCSE level or equivalent qualification **OR** work experience
- Demonstrates commitment to own continous learning and development
