THE POST

SET Felix is a member of the Seckford Education Trust (SET).

We are looking for a hard-working and enthusiastic person with high standards and the

ability to communicate and interact effectively with others as part of our school as a

Specialist Unit Teaching Assistant.

The first six months of employment shall be a probationary period and employment may be terminated by the Trust during this period at any time on one week’s prior written notice. The Trust may, at its absolute discretion, extend this period for up to a further six months. During this probationary period, performance and suitability for continued employment will be monitored.

The personal competencies expected of a Specialist Unit Teaching Assistant are:

The qualifications and previous experience required for a Specialist Unit Teaching Assistant are:
Essential
- Educated to GCSE level (good grades in English and Maths);
- Knowledge of school curriculum and the academic expectations of year groups;
- Experience of working in small group and on a 1:1 basis with children in educational setting(s)
- Administrative skills

Desirable
- Understanding of SEN code of practice and inclusive practice within a Primary school setting;
- Experience of working with SEND and vulnerable students including those with communication difficulties;
- Previous KS2 experience;
- Level 2 national qualification or equivalent experience;
- Experience of work in a Primary school setting.

The Specialist Unit Teaching Assistant is responsible for:
Specific Responsibilities

A non-exhaustive list of specific responsibilities for the role is below and you will be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
- Providing direct support as agreed with the Class Teacher and SLT.
- Adapting resources and teaching materials as necessary so that children are able to access learning and make progress
- Supporting the children to engage in whole class activities where appropriate
- Ensuring safety of children during structured and unstructured experiences
- Establish good professional working relationships with children, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs in line with school policy and individual plans
- Implementing specific strategies for managing the progress of identified children.
- Supporting the use of ICT for learning
- Contributing to ongoing assessment of children’s progress as guided by the Class Teacher.
- Supporting the teacher in maintaining positive behaviour in line with school policy
- Delivering the agreed programmes under the guidance of the Class Teacher and the SENDCO including Support Plans in place to support identified children with SEMH, Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning and Physical/Sensory needs
