We are looking for a Clinical Tutor to join our busy and friendly Imaging Department at Liverpool Women’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on a fixed term basis for a period of 18 months.

You will be a key member of the Imaging team and you will be responsible for the Trust-wide co-ordination and delivery of clinical ultrasound education. Ultrasound training is delivered within and outside of the Imaging Department and is delivered to clinicians from a multi-professional background. You will work closely with the Clinical Lead for Imaging and Lead Sonographer to ensure that highest technical and clinical standards are maintained in ultrasound training.

As part of this role you will be required to act as the deputy to the Clinical Lead as needed. You will also be required to act as the Clinical Audit Lead for the Imaging Department.

The Clinical Tutor will be involved in the co-ordination and delivery of ultrasound training for ultrasound students, medical staff, nursing and midwifery staff and other relevant health professionals. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that high standards of clinical and theoretical ultrasound education are achieved, ensuring that training, assessment and on-going clinical competency of the trainees is maintained.

- To act as a source of expertise to support less experienced staff during training, the preceptorship period and in ongoing practice.
- To develop and lead the preceptorship programme for newly qualified sonography staff.
- Ensure all training and development meets the requirements of national guidance and evidence based practice.
- To act as a student assessor
- Lead in the delivery of the peer audit programme ensuring all national and local standards are met, imaging standards are monitored and to develop / implement action plans as appropriate.

The Clinical Tutor will be involved in the co-ordination and delivery of ultrasound training to the following staff groups:

- Ultrasound students undertaking postgraduate ultrasound training.
- Junior medical staff.
- Nursing and midwifery staff undertaking focussed ultrasound training to act as assistant practitioners.
- Other professionally qualified health professionals using ultrasound in clinical practice.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that high standards of clinical and theoretical ultrasound education are achieved, ensuring that training, assessment and on-going clinical competency of the trainees is maintained.

The Clinical Tutor will undertake clinical and teaching session and will undertake clinical duties in the following areas:

- Obstetric and Gynaecology scanning
- General Medical scanning (desirable but not essential)
- Leg vein Doppler scans (desirable but not essential)
- Any new techniques developed in the future.

The Clinical Tutor will act independently, interpreting scan findings and producing written free text reports on examinations performed. Excellent communication skills are essential due to the need to deliver highly sensitive and upsetting information to both patients and relatives. The Clinical Tutor will be current in all aspects of ultrasound and will co-ordinate the departmental clinical audit and peer review programmes.
