The responsibilities for the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero for 2023 are as follows:

- Delivering security of energy supply
- Ensuring properly functioning energy markets
- Encouraging greater energy efficiency
- Seizing the opportunities of net zero to lead the world in new green industrie

For 2023, our priorities are:

- Ensure security of energy supply this winter, next winter and in the longer-term - bringing down energy bills and reducing inflation.
- Ensure the UK is on track to meet its legally binding Net Zero commitments and support economic growth by significantly speeding up delivery of network infrastructure and domestic energy production.
- Improve the energy efficiency of UK homes, businesses and public sector buildings to meet the 15% demand reduction ambition.
- Deliver current schemes to support energy consumers with their bills and develop options for long-term reform to improve how the electricity market works for families and businesses.
- Seize the economic benefits of Net Zero, including the jobs and growth created through investment in new green industries.
- Pass the Energy Bill to support the emerging CCUS and hydrogen sectors; to update the governance of the energy system; and to reduce the time taken to consent offshore wind.

**Job description**:
**The role and our team**

Would you like to contribute to the delivery of major infrastructure projects addressing climate change? In 2019, the UK became the first major economy in the world to legislate to have “net zero” carbon emissions by 2050, meaning we will no longer be a net emitter of greenhouse gases which contribute to climate change.

Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) can play an essential role in reaching net zero. It can be an engine to drive cleaner, sustainable growth, transforming our industrial heartlands. It can also unlock new jobs and innovative businesses, raising productivity and competitiveness across the UK.

Our team works collaboratively with Transport and Storage (T&S) projects developers and other government departments to collectively advance CCUS deployment, both in the UK and internationally. Our work is at the heart of some of Government’s most complex and high-profile priorities, including industrial decarbonisation and meeting net zero.

**Key responsibilities**

Typical role responsibilities include:

- Responsible for leading Assurance within a major CCUS project or across a portfolio of projects.
- Ensure proportionate reviews at relevant GMPP (Government Major Projects Portfolio) gateways, key milestones and management of recommendations.
- Oversees the planning, scheduling and management of assurance activities across a major project or portfolio of projects. Ensures the alignment of key assurance activities to major delivery milestones and ensure these are integrated across interdependent projects.
- Reports the outcomes of reviews to all relevant stakeholders, confirms their understanding and acceptance, and agrees resulting actions.
- Oversees the timely and accurate reporting of assurance to departmental or Cabinet Office teams to ensure transparency.
- Our Key areas for evaluation in assurance reviews include: Alignment with the business case; management processes; overall progress towards output in terms of time, cost & quality; stakeholder relationships & perceptions; final outcomes & lessons learned.
