We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Researcher to join our friendly Knowledge and Insight Directorate at The Active Wellbeing Society. Our head office is based in Tyseley, Birmingham, and we are offering this role as part working from the office and part home working. This role is responsible for leading on research and evaluation projects across all areas of the organisation, including, Healthy Communities (e.g., Social Prescribing), Community Support (e.g., Food, Sharing and Growing) and Community Activities (e.g., run/walk programmes, Active Streets, cycling etc.) to support strategic and operational decision-making. In addition, the Senior Researcher will support Business Development within the team and wider organisation.

The post holder will be responsible for the management and delivery of research and evaluation projects which will include, undertaking primary research, (surveys, interviews, focus groups, participatory research etc.,) and producing new, innovative products and services to drive behaviour change, and adapt and improve our practice.

You should have experience of mixed method research (quantitative and qualitative) and interpreting your findings into robust recommendations. The post-holder should have excellent time-management skills, and good written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to adapt to different audiences. The role will be part of the Research and Insight team and support the Research and Insight Manager.

Main duties

1. Provide expert knowledge and support across a wide breadth of research and evaluation matters.

2. Deliver multiple research and evaluation projects and products, including the use of surveys, focus groups, interviews, journey mapping, literature reviews, case studies, stories observation and ethnography.

4. Turn primary and secondary research findings into actionable insights, providing evidence and recommendations for problem solving, critical thinking, decision making and innovation.

5. Support the Research and Insight Manager to design and deliver training for The Active Wellbeing Society staff and members of the public e.g. Community Researcher Training.

6. Use excellent communication skills across a range of audiences to present information in engaging ways through a range of products such as, reports, briefings, profiles, presentations, and infographics, for a range of audiences.

7. Work collaboratively with the team, other directorates and stakeholders to understand their research needs and to implement research processes and procedures, in-line with organisational priorities and customer needs, with a clear focus on providing evidence of what works.

8. Take responsibility for the delivery of delegated projects, including were appropriate overall Project Management, reporting and meetings.

9. Work collaboratively with the Research and Insight Manager and Assistant Director to coordinate the organisation’s Research and Evaluation requirements and deliver projects in an effective and timely manner.

10. Understand and adhere to research ethics, governance legislation, information management policies and data privacy and protection regulations, including, UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act.

11. Line-manage Insight and Research staff following policies and procedures, conducting 1:1s and appraisals, monitoring absence and attendance, and assigning tasks. Ensure staff are managed effectively.

1. Sound knowledge and understanding of qualitative research methods, including, interviews, surveys, focus groups, participatory methods, journey mapping, literature reviews, case studies, stories, observation, and ethnography. (Essential)
