**Purpose**:
To manage a team of Registered nurses and Healthcare assistants ensuring the effective assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of high standards of holistic care for an identified group of service users.

Responsible to ensure effective performance management of all clinical staff in line with Brainkind policies and procedures for recruitment, induction, development, supervision, appraisal, and discipline.

**Key Relationships**:

- The post holder holds the line management responsibility for Registered nurses and may hold the line management responsibility for healthcare assistants.
- Responsible for working alongside and/or supporting volunteers within their team.
- Ensuring that all service users (or when they are not able, relatives) are given the opportunity to participate fully in the care planning process.
- Maintaining good communication and liaison with all other departments, internal and external to Brainkind, including junior doctors on placement

**Main Responsibilities but not limited to**
- Responsible for ensuring adequate and appropriate daily staff cover by planning and effective duty rota and participating in the provision of out of hours clinical support.
- Managing and accessing risk within the area of responsibility, ensuring adequate measures are in place to protect staff and service users.
- This post holds no budgetary responsibility but will be expected to contribute to helping to manage costs where appropriate and monitor the control and ordering of supplies within available resources.
- Participating in annual audit programme, setting quality standards and monitoring quality of care through clinical audit
- Deputising in the absence of the Head of Clinical Services/Ward Manager, including at internal and external meetings.
- Contributing to the continuing development of nursing care and services offered to the service users and smooth running of the Service through the acceptance of agreed additional responsibilities.
- Promotes, demonstrates, and maintains high standards of care delivery according to NSF, NICE guidelines, and the Brainkind Quality Governance Policy. Recognises and works within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC.
- Responsible to lead the nursing team in developing the quality of nursing care, acting as a source of support and advice to colleagues and relatives. Delegating clearly and appropriately, adopting the principles of safe practice, and assessing competence
- Takes responsibility for a service user group, consulting and liaising with the multi-disciplinary team, service users, family/carers over their care. Assess the impact of policy implementation on care delivery.
- In consultation with the Head of Clinical Services/Ward Manager, assess potential service users in liaison with Health and / or Social Services commissioners. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates individualised care using evidence-based guidelines.
- Produces accurate, contemporaneous, and complete records of service user consultation, consistent with legislation, policies, and procedures, whether in a handwritten or electronic format
- Ensure all clinical staff (including self) receive formal documented supervision / clinical supervision in line with Brainkind professional and statutory requirements. Promotes and demonstrates the highest clinical standards and assess through monitoring competencies.
- Ensures the identification of training needs, and support staff in their development. Actively promotes the workplace as a learning environment, encouraging everyone to learn from each other and from external good practice.
- Providing an educational role to patients, carers, families, and colleagues in an environment that facilitates learning. Shares knowledge and expertise with other staff through formal and informal teaching. Act as mentor to students, assessing competence against set standards as requested and if appropriately qualified.
- To maintain an understanding of and to act in accordance with all Brainkind policies and procedures.
