**Job summary**:
Scrutiny provide support to the Business assisting in correctly following the approvals process and undertaking the review of cases where the value, complexity and potential implications are appropriate to their grade. Focusing on the Financial and Economic cases providing a balanced, impartial view and undertaking approvals within their delegated financial authority. Explaining the required processes, providing guidance and support within your knowledge base. Working closely with key stakeholder exerting their influence to resolve issues, providing innovative solutions whilst ensuring adherence with MOD standards.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
**Providing services as the Subject Matter Expert**
- Building knowledge and subsequently providing support, advice and promoting knowledge of the financial and economic cases within the Business Case and Investment Appraisals, supporting both the Business and finance workforce, escalating queries where complex or there is uncertainty.
- Ensuring adherence to standards as outlined within internal MOD guidance (Joint Service Publication (JSP) 655, JSP 507, JSP 892).
- Developing a firm understanding of the required business case content and related processes being able to explain and relay this information, ensuring this is understood by all stakeholders, to support compliance and meeting the required standards.
- Undertaking the financial scrutiny of Business Cases (BC) / Investment Appraisals (IAs), supporting your line management, and learning from their experience.
- Undertaking approvals within your delegated financial authority and maintaining a database of key approval information.

- Building and maintaining working relationships with Business areas, building your understanding of how the Business operates, seeking to support their needs.

- Dedicating time to sharing best practice and ideas for refining standardised processes and procedures.

**Person specification**:

- Provide constructive and value adding inputs
- Excellent organisational skills
- Good communication skills in various formats
- System competency including outlook, excel and word
- Strong people skills and confidence in dealing with people at all levels

**Desirable**
- Desire to work towards or hold level 4 qualification with AAT, CCAB or CIMA, with previous financial experience.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet deadlines with conflicting demands.
- Prior experience in a finance environment
