Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

Are you looking for a varied part-time role in events administration?

Cambridge Language Sciences is an Interdisciplinary Research Centre connecting researchers across many different parts of the University, and beyond, for collaboration and ideas exchange.

Language Science covers a number of areas of research including language development, neuroscience, linguistics, education, speech and language therapy, and speech technology, and is increasingly relevant to our everyday lives (e.g. voice assistants such as Siri or Alexa).

Working closely with the Communications Manager and the Centre Manager, you will co-ordinate and contribute to the planning of events and other research-related activities. This includes two annual conferences, workshops, and research meetings. You will be responsible for logistics such as organising travel, accommodation, and catering, as well as monitoring expenditure and handling expenses and invoices. You will also support the Communications Manager in publicising events and other activities including several small grants funds.

You will have experience of working in an administrative role, with the ability to deliver a variety of activities and events. You will be able to demonstrate excellent planning and organisation skills. You will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to coordinate communications across a range of audiences. Knowledge of, or an interest in, language or linguistics would be an advantage.

Responsibilities will include:

- Coordinating and overseeing administration of events and other research-related activities, preparing project plans and monitoring progress against project milestones.
- Organising events, such as conferences, workshops, or training sessions, making necessary logístical arrangements and liaising with attendees.
- Providing administrative support to the Communications Manager and Centre Manager such as organising meetings and providing secretariat support to relevant committees.
- Monitoring expenditure against budgets and managing purchasing procedures.
- Supporting communications activities, including updating the centre's website and helping publicise events.

The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance. The role is offered for at 0.27 FTE (10 hours per week).

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
