We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking and organised individual to support the team in the development and expansion of the establishedMacmillan Cancer Information and Support Service and theClinical Research Facultyat the Cancer Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved to improve the quality and accessibility of information and research opportunities and support to cancer patients, carers and other health professionals.

You will meet with individual patients/clients carers, relatives and professionals to support access to high quality information and support in relation to cancer. This will include triage of individual patient needs, provision of verbal and written information, supportive listening, action planning and signposting to available services.

You will also be expected to contribute to the delivery and development of a strategic patient service.

**The main purpose of this role is to**: Develop, deliver, evaluate and embed a programme of patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) in the CRF, in line with the individual PPIE strategies and implementation plans. Oversee, coordinate, and report on all the elements of this programme.

You will work on developing the involvement of patients and the public in research within the CRF and raising its profile and understanding. You will support and maintain external and internal communication to promote and support patient and public involvement.
- To assess the needs of individuals attending/contacting the service and to identify the required level of intervention. Be the point of contact for all non-routine enquires facilitating communication and information flows, initiating and responding to correspondence and resolving enquires
- Develop and provide holistic needs assessments service for cancer patients.
- Coordinate access to information and resources to support people in decision making.
- Implement the development of effective CRF wide mechanisms to collect and act upon patient and carer views about research/CRF services
- Lead on future policy developments in relation to patient and public involvement and public engagement.
- To work with patient experts, patient advocates, patient organisations/charities, and researchers to develop a two-way mutually beneficial partnership for developing PPI in research at our site

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- To assess the needs of individuals attending/contacting the service and to identify the required level of intervention.
- Be the point of contact for all non-routine enquires facilitating communication and information flows, initiating and responding to correspondence and resolving enquires.
- Where it is appropriate and under appropriate supervision the post holder will discuss basic clinical information around topics such as diagnosis, treatment options and side effects in both written and verbal formats and provide advice on a range of other issues e.g. benefits, travel insurance, and how to access other services.
- Contribute to the planning and organisation of events and displays outside the information centre.
- Develop and provide holistic needs assessments service for cancer patients.
- Coordinate access to information and resources to support people in decision making.
- Liaise with CNS’s other health professionals and cancer services as appropriate.
- Provide basic telephone advice and refer on or sign-post to other sources of support
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of relationships with other departments and wards in the trust and external agencies.
