The association is the only body representing Scotland’s plant industry in its entirety with members involved in Quarrying, Construction, Demolition, Plant Hire, Lifting, Plant Sales and more.

Our aim, besides being the Voice and Ears of the sector, is to be at the heart of Scotland’s plant community.

We require a passionate and ambitious person to take up the role of Skills and Training lead. You will work closely with the President and Executive Committee, learning the intricacies of how the SPOA works whilst supporting them on all matters of training in industry including apprenticeships, competency schemes and more.

**About you**:
You will be from the plant industry as having specialist knowledge of the plant sector is essential. In addition, knowledge of apprenticeship and funding systems across Scotland and the variety of plant industry roles is also essential.

- **Skills and Training Lead**

**Responsibilities and duties**:

- Manage the diary of the plant simulator and encourage members to use it as a recruitment tool.
- Support members at events with the plant simulator.
- You will engage with members to increase apprenticeship numbers in Scotland particularly areas such as Argyll, Aberdeen, Highlands & Islands, South east and west Scotland where plant apprenticeships are either non-existent or proven to be very successful.
- Engage with Parents, Schools, Colleges and DYW raising awareness of plant industry careers.
- Increase diversity and inclusion within the membership and sector.
- You’ll devise and promote specific SPOA training courses as required ensuring industry buy in.
- Promote existing upskilling such as Machine Control and Eco-Operator training and work to create further upskilling opportunities.

**Funding**:

- Identify funding opportunities for the association and its members.
- Create successful funding bids in line with fund requirements.
- Manage funding drawdowns, claims, and budgeting.

**Industry Engagement**:

- You’ll collate member and industry data, produce reports to a high standard and conform to GDPR.
- Address member challenges and needs at local and government level regarding anything affecting training and careers within the sector.
- Keep an eye on the future work pipeline to ensure the sector remains ahead of the training curve.
- Manage training opportunities for SPOA staff and Executive Committee colleagues.
- Visit plant training colleges in Scotland and England ensuring parity between them.
- Engage with apprentices both at college and in the workplace to obtain genuine, unbiased feedback.

**Reporting**:

- Present a monthly report to the Executive Committee.

- Ability to manage workload with minimum supervision.

**Key Attributes**:

- Minimum of 5 years experience in industry in a training, operational or other associated plant role
- IT Literate, familiar with MS office.
- Qualification in training desirable but not essential.
- Full and clean B+E driving licence.
- Health and Safety Qualification desirable.

**Hours of Work**:

- 8am - 5pm Monday to Friday at Stirling office, some events may land outside these hours.
- 29 days Holiday (mandatory 10 days at Christmas + public holidays)

**Salary**:

- Up to £45,000 depending on experience.
