**Autism Session Lead**
**Job brief**
The post holder will encourage, inspire and support the personal development of autistic and/or neurodivergent young people. Working either independently or collaboratively with other sessions leads they will prepare and deliver bespoke and personalised programmes of work to increase social, personal and educational development. Sessions are planned to allow the young people to develop through physical activity/movement, exploring within the natural environment encouraging curiosity and an intrinsic desire to learn and discover. They will work predominantly within childrens services including 1 after school social club per week.
Hours
- Full Time or Term Time hours available.
Salary-£21,000 per annum
**Key Tasks**
- Provide 1:1 or small group support to autistic children/young people and support them to enhance their engagement and communication within school/college and social environments across a range of the following areas:
- Improving social skills and communication
- Independent living
- Sensory profiling
- Gardening
- Healthy living and exercise
- Relationships
- Understanding Autism
- Emotional Regulation
- Transitions
- Encourage development of friendships and participation in social and educational activities across all indoor and outdoor facilities within Daisy Chain including barn and forest school.
- Work alongside other session leads within a range of afterschool social clubs including high needs sessions to encourage social engagement and inclusion for all.
- Plan and deliver a range of sessions bespoke to each student based on their individual needs.
- Provide support and guidance to care support staff and volunteers when required.
- Develop and use appropriate resources, strategies and schemes of work in line with the service.
- Contribute towards the protection of individuals from abuse by adhering to Daisy Chains Child and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding Policies at all times.
- Develop and maintain positive and supportive relationships with autistic young people/adults and their families.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times and that a service users personal details are not disclosed to any unauthorized third person.
- Maintain effective and accurate recording and reporting systems in line with Daisy Chains procedures and undertake other administrative tasks as required.
- Undertake any training and development deemed necessary for the pursuance of the post.
- Any other duties from time to time, commensurate with the level of the post.

**Person Specification**
**Experience**
- Proven experience of face to face work with young people in a formal or informal setting-E&A
- Experience of supporting autistic and/or neurodivergent young people -E&A
- Demonstrable experience of supporting autistic young people to access a range of bespoke personal development activities -E&A
- Experience of working in the voluntary sector-D&A
- Experience/knowledge of following correct procedures when dealing with safeguarding concerns-E & A&I
**Qualifications**
- Relevant L2 child care qualification or equivalent experience -E&A
- Willing and able to work towards a L3 ASD qualification alongside this post-E&A
- Good general education-E&A
- First Aid Certificate - D&A
- Team Teach Training D&A
**Knowledge & Skills**
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of issues faced by young people affected by autism, including associated difficulties and mental health-E&I
- In-depth knowledge of effective strategies for supporting young people on the autism spectrum. -E&I
- Ability to develop positive, professional relationships with young people and adults-E&I
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of service users with varying complex needs-E&I
- Knowledge of safeguarding, signs of abuse and how to respond to suspected abuse-E&I
- Knowledge of current legislation relating to work with young people and adults-E&I
- Good organisational skills -E&I
