St Helens Army Reserve Soldier

ARMY RESERVE SOLDIER - SERVE FROM JUST 27 DAYS A YEAR
The average person spends 15 days a year surfing the web in their spare time. With the Army Reserve, you'll get to do something different with your time. Learn new skills, make friends and get paid too.
WHAT IS THE ARMY RESERVE? - Army Reserve soldiers (Reservists) get involved in everything that the Regular Army does - from combat to peacekeeping and humanitarian work. They are given the opportunity to learn trade skills and can take advantage of the opportunities that Regular soldiers have too - like adventurous training. They are paid for the time they spend.
The difference is that Reservists are not full-time soldiers. Many Reservists have a day job.
LIFE IN THE ARMY RESERVE - Once you've joined, most Reservists serve near their home, and meet once a week to train. You'll have occasional weekends away on exercise or adventurous training.
There's also a two-week training camp that you'll go on, to put your skills into practice. You may be asked to go on operations if needed, but we will make sure that you're fully trained for the task in hand.
TRAINING TO BE A RESERVIST - As a Reservist, you do your training in the evenings and at weekends and you get paid for the time you spend training. You'll need to do your basic training - but this can be arranged to fit in around your day job. You don't have to do all the training at once. It can be completed in shorter modules or in one go.
Further training also takes place in your spare time. It can take weeks or months depending on your role, course and how much time you can give. Your unit will be happy to support you during your training.
HOW MUCH TIME WILL IT TAKE? - How much time you spend is really up to you - training is flexible and can fit around your life. Most roles will ask you to aim for 27 days a year - and your weekly training session at your unit will count towards this. To earn your annual bonus, you'll need to make sure you meet your time commitment.
BENEFITS FOR RESERVISTS - As a Reservist soldier, you'll be paid a day rate which is in line with Regular soldier pay. You can also earn a 'bounty' which is a tax-free sum upon successful completion of annual training and testing. You'll also be enrolled into the Armed Forces Pension Scheme.
New Entrant Daily Pay - £46.91
Soldier Daily Pay - £58.99
Bounty pay varies from £470 in year 1 to £1,862 in year 5.
It's not just about the money, you'll learn soldiering skills, but you'll also get the chance to develop more specialist skills - these could lead to gaining extra qualifications which will count outside the Army too.
We have the following roles available within this unit;
- LIGHT GUNNER - Become a highly skilled Gunner and make a big difference on the battlefield. Get qualifications, make friends for life and enjoy an exciting Army life.
- ARTILLERY COMMAND SYSTEMS - Use the latest systems to get crucial information to troops. Learn about IT, get qualifications and work with people who’ll be mates for life.
- ARTILLERY SURVEILLANCE OBSERVER - You spot enemy units using radar. Then we lock in and destroy them - which may save many lives. Off duty, there’s an unbeatable Army lifestyle.
- ARTILLERY LOGISTIC SPECIALIST - Could you get food, water and ammunition to troops on the battlefield? If so, you could be a key part of the Royal Artillery team.
- CHEF - Cook for everyone from hungry soldiers in the field, to VIPs at state ceremonies. Get skilled, qualified and enjoy an incredible Army life.
- COMBAT MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - Saving lives on the front line takes courage and incredible drive. We can give you support and training - the rest is up to you
- HR SPECIALIST - Travelling the world with your unit. Getting skills and qualifications. Playing your part in a team: that’s the life of an Army HR Specialist.
