We are looking for a Land Freight Customs Team Leader based in our Tilbrook site to work Monday to Friday rotating shift pattern, such as 7am - 4pm and 10am - 7pm. The position holder will assist in the management of the Customs team and maintain a centre of excellent customer service to the Customs & Logistics clientele of Yusen Logistics (UK) Ltd. They will continuously review ways off working to ensure shipments are managed efficiently and ‘right first time’, will maintain a centre of excellence for issues relating to HM Revenue & Customs with Yusen Logistics (UK) Ltd. Also, they will develop specialist knowledge of the industry and work closely with team members, clients and suppliers.

Key responsibilities:

- To establish, build, improve and maintain a good relationship with all staff Team members, ensuring fairness across the team & professional standards are maintained
- Effectively confronts and resolves conflict situations within the team
- Cooperate and work collaboratively with the team and foster good relationships with others
- Assist the team and customers with queries, concerns and advice with all customs and job queries, escalating any potential issues
- Build trust and confidence within the team through the quality of your work
- Lead by example and encourage respectful communication & behaviour within the team
- Encourages a free and respectful exchange of thoughts and opinions among employees
- Respect new ideas and differing opinions
- Ensure issues are resolved in professional and timely manner

- Effectively manage a team of coordinators to facilitate the Customs Clearances to/from the EU on behalf of our customers
- Assist with the control of the department this includes shift patterns, holidays, training, coaching and mentoring
- Act as first point of contact for clients, ensuring that all operational, customs requirements and enquiries are responded to on time and concluded accurately and courteously, escalating any potential issues to the Line Manager
- Understanding the and challenges of our customers through insight needs
- Building and maintaining a good solid customer relationship
- Ensure customers KPI’s & SOP’s are followed and maintained
- Create Customs entries & Transit Documents as per customer instructions and 2nd check entries as per the departmental KPI
- Provide support, help & assistance to the Customs department
- Work closely with clients and suppliers to ensure that smooth & seamless service levels are achieved
- Checking for any outstanding open Transit issues. Ensure the Transit issue tracking sheet is updated accordingly. Ensure customers are chased within 48 hours of the Transit expiry. Chase customers for Transit Documents not collected within 2 days
- Reactively deal with HMRC queries & questions
- Assist in training and support requirements due to any upcoming HMRC systems, Legislative and governance changes
- Assisting the team in the cancellation and amendments of Transit Documents and entries, keeping the customer updated
- Deal with transit issues as they arise and in a timely manner within HMRC agreed timelines
- Create SOP’s and working instructions
- Ensure all company procedures including Health and Safety are adhered to, including absence, performance, standards of behaviour, taking due consideration of company values
- Prepare KPI reports and present to clients as required. Communicate and escalate to team members and management wherever necessary
- Maintain systems with accurate and real-time data
- Complete regular audits on the Customs activity to ensure adherence with HM Customs procedures / client instructions
