Maternity Cover 33 Hour Care Assistant

To support residents with all aspects of their day to day living, so they can enjoy the best possible quality of life. Further, to provide safe, reliable, compassionate care and support to meet the individual needs and wishes of each resident. Each person is unique therefore you must respect each resident’s choice about how their care and support is given and promote their dignity at all times. Providing care and support offers many rewards, but can also be challenging. Compassion, good communication skills and a calm and caring manner are essential for this important role in our company.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Appear for work wearing the correct uniform and of smart appearance at all times.
- Treat all staff with respect and report any unsatisfactory behaviour.
- Give anti-discriminatory care and support that values the whole person rather than merely seeing a list of care needs.
- Carefully listen and observe how each resident prefers their care and support to be delivered on a day to day basis. Help them make their own decisions so they can be as independent as possible.
- Follow the instructions in the care and support plan agreed with each resident.
- Assist residents with all aspects of personal care such as showering and bathing, dressing and grooming, dental hygiene, toileting and continence care
- Support the residents to maintain a healthy nutritional intake. Ensure the residents maintain a good level of hydration.
- Safely use aids and personal equipment in a manner that respects the dignity of residents. For example, walking frames, wheelchairs, manual and electric hoists, sliding sheets and moving boards, hearing aids and other physical aids
- Promote and encourage social and physical activities or mental stimulation, such as keeping in touch with friends/relatives, and hobbies such as reading, games, etc. Encourage the residents to take part in daily activities.
- Record and report the care and support that you provide and assistance with medicines.
- Record and report changes to a resident’s condition or other concerns.
- Record and report response to emergencies, accidents, incidents and safeguarding matters.
- Record and report contact with families, representatives or carers and other professionals.
- Keep all information about residents and their families secure and confidential except where policy requires you to share, to protect the interests of our customers.
- Take part in staff meetings.
- Attend training activities, supervisor and appraisal meetings.
- Adhere to all Horizon Healthcare rules, policies and procedures.
- Observe any legislative requirements applicable to your role at all times.
- To be safety conscious at all times and adhere to any safety guidelines set down.
- To be aware of and have regard for Fire Regulations and Procedures.
- Any other duties delegated.
**Qualifications**
SVQ level 2 or equivalent or actively working towards this qualification.
