Bristol, United Kingdom University of Bristol Full time

**The role**:
Are you looking to explore the frontiers of atom interferometric sensing? In this exciting EPSRC funded project led by Dr Carrie Weidner, we will be building the coldest place in Bristol—an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). We will demonstrate a six-axis inertial sensor (capable of measuring accelerations and rotations along all three Cartesian axes) based on ultracold atoms trapped in a phase-modulated optical lattice.

We are looking for someone to join our team and spearhead the construction of the experiment while working closely with experimental and theoretical collaborators across UK academia and industry. This post is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to grow as an experimental researcher, learning all the pieces of an ultracold atom experiment, and play a key role within a growing academic research group within the Quantum Engineering Technologies Laboratories (QET Labs) at the University of Bristol.

**What will you be doing?**:
You will play a crucial role in the construction and commissioning of the first BEC experiment in Bristol, as well as driving the first experiments done with this system. Your work will push the boundaries of useful, flexible, and compact quantum sensing with ultracold atom technology, and you will gain a wide range of expertise with a variety of experimental tools and techniques. You will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to an area of quantum technologies that is extremely promising and well-funded within the UK and around the world.

You have:

- A track record in experimental atomic physics or closely-related field
- Demonstrated ability to write and publish scientific papers
- PhD in physics or electrical engineering
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- You will carry out cutting-edge research in quantum inertial sensing and other quantum technologies
- You will have the chance to collaborate with talented academics, researchers, and industry partners, broadening your horizons and advancing your career
- You will join one of the leading research universities in the UK (ranked 5th REF 2021)
- We offer competitive pay and rewards, generous leave entitlements, generous pension scheme, development opportunities and wellbeing initiatives.
- We offer an inclusive culture, valuing the diversity of thoughts, beliefs and background.

**Additional information**:
Please also see a related post here ACAD106971 for a theoretical
- and simulation-based researcher on the same project with the same group.
