We are recruiting for a Café Assistant to help oversee and support the catering services for The Fifth Trust charity’s **Vineyard Café**, based in the beautiful Elham Valley, near Barham. This is one of our "social enterprises" and our students play an active role in helping and working in the Café. This requires a high level of patience, understanding and care, whilst also dealing with the demands of the public in a busy café environment, where cooking to order is the norm. Therefore, unless you have “cooking to order” experience, plus a happy, polite disposition with the confidence to deal with all front-of-house matters, ensuring our customers are made to feel welcome and enjoy their visit, this role is not for you.

Reporting to: Café Manager.

Our work environment includes:

- Smart casual work attire (including appropriate hygiene wear)

This is a rewarding role working as part of a small team that also helps to teach, train, and demonstrate catering and hospitality skills to our students, who have learning disabilities. You will have specific areas of responsibility, including;
- cooking to order
- food preparation
- front of house/customer service
- order-taking
- menu setting
- table laying/clearing
- till operation/processing payments
- end of day cleaning
- stock replenishment

You will contribute fully to the commercial success of the Vineyard Café.

This is a full-time role based at the Elham Valley Vineyard, Barham, near Canterbury.

The café operates seven days a week, all year round (excluding the Christmas to New Year period). A weekend rota operates, and you will be required to work a Saturday or Sunday on a regular basis, with a day off during the week to compensate.

Own transport is essential due to our rural location and infrequent bus services.

This is a highly rewarding role for someone with good cookery and baking skills and experience of a busy kitchen. Confident, personable and willing to support and train adults with wide ranging learning disabilities.
