A 3-year position of Research Assistant (UoE grade 6) is available in the group of Grzegorz Kudla at the MRC Human Genetics Unit (MRC HGU), University of Edinburgh.

**The Opportunity:
The successful applicant will support deep mutational scanning studies of human disease genes, in close collaboration with postdoctoral researchers in the Kudla lab and at the MRC HGU Genome Engineering Facility. The main areas of work will be the construction of plasmids compatible with modern saturation mutagenesis, barcoding, recombineering and genome engineering technologies; construction of mammalian cell lines capable of integrating plasmid libraries via site-directed recombination or CRISPR/Cas9; and large-scale transfection of human cells using the MaxCyte technology. You will use methods available in the lab (gene synthesis, saturation mutagenesis, cell engineering), and introduce new methods as they become available. You will have the opportunity to participate in group and section meetings with experimental and computational scientists to learn new skills in protein, RNA and cell biology.

**Your skills and attributes for success**:

- A BSc in Biomedical Sciences (or similar), and a passion for working in a modern research laboratory
- Experience in molecular/synthetic biology, cell biology and cell culture techniques
- Excellent written and spoken English and good communication skills.
- Enthusiasm and ability to work as part of a team.
- Experience with at least one of the following: saturation mutagenesis, high-throughput studies of variant effects, genome editing, recombination mediated cassette exchange.
