Midwifery Practice Leader- Home From Home Birth

The required skills set include experience in working in all midwifery-led settings, water births, triaging, supporting junior members of staff and learners. Previous experience of acting up or working as an MPL will be an advantage. You will be supported by the Matron and Lead Midwife, our PMA's and PDM team to build on your skills and confidence as you progress through your midwifery career.

The Midwifery Practice Leader (MPL) will take responsibility for the management of care of women admitted to Birth Centres. The MPL will also facilitate the professional and clinical developments of staff in this area as well as ensuring the skills of all members are used to optimal effect.

The post holder will ensure that the care provided by the practice is in keeping with the Philosophy of Care advocated within the Women's Health Directorate of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Trust.

This includes the development of a holistic care of women on High risk Birth Centre that includes immediate postnatal care of mother and baby prior to transfer home.

Women’s services

Our directorate provides high quality care to patients across South East London, as well as delivering a range of specialist services both nationally and internationally.

We treat approximately 40,000 gynaecology patients, and deliver 6,400 NHS births and 350 private births a year. We have one of the largest NHS IVF units in the UK, which includes our flagship Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis services. Alongside our clinical services, we are integrated with colleagues at Kings College London, delivering a significant programme of research and development.

Work in accordance with the NMC’s rules and code of conduct for midwives.

Maintain and develop professional knowledge and competence in accordance within the NMC recommendations.

Act as a role model for midwifery practice to all staff within the directorate.

Act as a “Specialist advisor” on issues relating to midwifery care to the members of the Practice

Facilitate the smooth running of Hospital Birth Centre staff under direct line management and co-ordinate all activities.

Work closely with the MPL for Hospital Birth Centre, Antenatal Day unit and inpatient wards, providing cover for annual leave.
