DBT stakeholders include business organisations, exporters and investors, consumer groups, think tanks and internal teams. We work across the UK and globally through our networks and overseas posts.

**Job description**:
As a Deputy Head, you will be a lynchpin in the team, designing and delivering a broad range of external engagement to inform communications and support multiple teams across the department.

The role creates and delivers business communications and stakeholder engagement strategies. This includes working on, and leading, campaigns that promote the UK as the best place to start and grow a business: Promoting high profile trade deals, supporting businesses to export to key markets and engaging stakeholders on the business and regulatory environment to help businesses operate and flourish. You’ll be contributing to creating the right climate for the success of the UK’s trade and business agenda by ensuring an informed public policy debate.

The role has responsibility for keeping stakeholders abreast of the work of the department across sectors, regions and nations. We seek a proactive communications mastermind who can inspire collaboration with businesses and influencers, and deliver through a variety of channels (including media, digital, social content, visits and marketing). We are looking for an innovator who can bring new creative ideas on how to deepen understanding, trust and enjoyment in all our relationships.

The role also involves cross-Whitehall External Affairs leadership for the Government Communication Service.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.Most DBT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London salary.

DBT will cover travel costs/expenses to any office which is not your usual office location in line with departmental expenses policy. DBT will not cover commuting costs to your agreed office location.

**Person specification**:
**Essential Criteria**
- Demonstrable leadership and management skills; proactively leading projects and inspiring colleagues to deliver to a high standard.
- Proven experience of engagement with senior stakeholders such as c-suite leaders and/or boards.
- Proven experience of leading and delivering stakeholder engagement and/or communications campaigns.
- Ability to provide clear argument and advice based on analysis, judgement and experience.
- Ability to collaborate with a complex group of internal and external stakeholders and achieve shared objectives.

**Desirable Criteria**
- An understanding of working with government, including with Ministers and Secretary of State.
- An understanding of press and digital communications.
- An understanding of the trade agenda and/or business environment, and an interest in public policy.
