**Hours**:Full or part time (min 3 days), Mon-Fri between 08.00-17.00 (potential for long days)

**Pay rate**:£23.52

The postholder **must **be **dysphagia** trained and will provide specialist communication and swallowing assessment and intervention for patients with a range of medical conditions. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills as a speech and language therapist as you will have a varied caseload including older people, gastro, trauma ortho, cardio, and stroke.

**The trust are able to offer on-site accommodation for 3-4 months to the right applicant** - which means there’s no need to travel The hospital is situated in a beautiful area just above the North York Moors National Park and only 20 minutes from the sea. With the nearest train station only a 10-minute walk, there are great transport links to cities and seaside towns.

Examples of Responsibilities:

- To devise and deliver specialised programmes of care and communicate treatment details to patients, carers, and members of the MDT within the appropriate in-patient and / or community setting.
- To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Speech & Language Therapy interventions and modify as appropriate.
- To formulate accurate prognosis and recommend the best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans
- Ensure accurate records are kept in accordance with STH policy and HCPC guidelines
- Possibility for some community work within the rehab hospital
- _**Band 7 Specific**_
- To take a major role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the specialty who may have complex and/or chronic presentation to determine clinical diagnosis and the speech & language therapy treatment indicated where advanced clinical reasoning, evidence-based practice and expertise are essential to develop effective individual therapy plans
- To assess patients’ understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment. To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes. This may involve patients, carers, other family members and/or members of the MDT as appropriate
- To act as a source of expertise to healthcare professionals, speech and language therapists and others and to provide clinical supervision and training to junior members of staff and students
- Be HCPC registered
- Hold a recognised undergraduate or postgraduate qualification to practice as a Speech & Language Therapist
- Have 6 months paid NHS experience as a band 6 or 7 within the last 2 years
- Be dysphagia competent
- Have acute adult services experience
- Have Systm One experience - _desirable_
- Practice in accordance with the professional, ethical, and legal codes of the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), and Trust and NHS protocols and guidelines
