This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated person who is interested in Speech & Language Therapy to gain experience within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fixed term post to cover a period of maternity leave.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is willing to learn and develop in this role. They will possess excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.

You will support therapists to provide a clinical Speech & Language Therapy service to people who have communication impairments following a range of disorders. This could include working with patients who have had a stroke, neurological disorder, voice disorders or patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer.

Part of this post will be working with the team who provide Speech and Language Therapy Services into the South Tees Stroke Service. The service covers the whole patient pathway from hyper-acute at James Cook University Hospital through to inpatient rehabilitation at Redcar Primary Care Hospital, Early Supported Discharge, and outpatient therapy. The post may require you to work cross site. In addition you will support the Head and Neck cancer team based at The James Cook University Hospital site.

You will work as part of an inter-disciplinary team including Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and other Therapy Support Workers. You will work closely alongside Speech and Language Therapists, supporting assessments, therapy and training to a wide range of caseloads and other professionals.

It is essential that you are able to travel independently throughout the South Tees locality.

You can expect to receive regular supervision from a Speech and Language Therapist and be encouraged to take an active part in service improvement, clinical governance and continuing professional development as appropriate to your role. You will also be supported by our experienced team of therapists, plus clerical support, which is based in our offices at The James Cook University Hospital.

The Directorate of Adult Speech & Language Therapy provides specialist communication and dysphagia input for acquired disorders into The James Cook University Hospital, Redcar Primary Care Hospital, East Cleveland Primary Care Hospital, The Friarage Hospital and the South Tees community. The James Cook University Hospital is a large teaching hospital that includes the specialties of Acute Stroke, Cardiothoracic, ENT, Head & Neck Cancer, Maxillo Facial Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuro-rehabilitation and Neuro-oncology, plus the Regional Spinal Injuries Unit. The Trust also hosts the Middlesbrough MND Care Centre.
