**Senior Civil Design Engineer - Utilities**

**Job Purpose**:
Civil designs will be created based on a scope provided by Project Managers, Customers, or the Design Lead, and will include project costings based on customer requirements for time, quality, and budget. These schemes could be for APP and/or Connections(non-contestable and contestable) works that adhere to design standards.
The Senior Civil Designer will work with the Project Manager, Electrical Designer, and PDC to ensure design, CDM, and relevant standards are met for both the regulated network solutions for all customers.
**General requirements**:
- Creating civil and structural designs that can be built in accordance with standards and CDM requirements.
- Create effective designs in conjunction with electrical engineering works that adhere to all relevant Codes of Practice, company and industry standards.
- Oversee and contribute to the creation of technical, commercial, and contractual documents for engineering product procurement.
- Ensure that all relevant legislation, regulations, and company procedures are followed.
- Ensuring design assurance and audit processes are followed;
- Assisting and mentoring Trainee/Graduate/Engineers to improve their technical knowledge and experience.
- Comply with the designer's requirements as outlined in the CDM Regulations.
- Take on the responsibility of Principal Designer for assigned schemes.
**Principal Accountabilities**:
- Deliver excellent customer service.
- Participate in a dedicated team of Designers, Estimators, and Planners as a Team Player.
- Coordinate with the operational teams to ensure a smooth transition from initial inquiry to final connection and business closure.
- Comply with the designer's requirements as outlined in the CDM Regulations.
- Ensure design eliminates/reduces any hazards that may give rise to risks; and reduces risks from any remaining hazards (in conjunction with CDM).
- Work with the organization's designers.
**Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience**:
- A Civil Engineering degree with relevant Substation/OHL/Cable experience is required.
- Chartered engineer or in the process of becoming one.
- A civil / structural engineering background and extensive experience in civil engineering and building works, preferably in the utility sector, are required.
- Knowledge of current and technological developments in civil/structural engineering.
- Ability to work effectively with external engineering organisations and customers/stakeholders.
- Ability to work unsupervised, set and meet personal goals, and identify and implement cost-cutting solutions.
- Excellent teamwork abilities.
- A good understanding of business, environmental, safety, financial, and regulatory issues;
- An understanding of financial reporting systems in general.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 procedures relevant to the team's activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, as well as proficiency in written and oral communication.
- Manage (rather than line manage) and communicate with the CAD team in order to produce design drawings suitable for construction.
- Site surveying and layout experience.
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD (also Bentley software would be beneficial).
- Building services experience.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills are required. A thorough understanding of power engineering plant and equipment, such as transformers, switchgear, cables, and protection schemes, is required.
- Knowledge of roadworks, external works such as drainage, building reinforced concrete foundations, superstructures such as structural steel work, brick block cavity walls, various types of roofing, and reinforced concrete structures.
- Contribution to innovative construction ideas and techniques.
