Ipswich, United Kingdom Suffolk County Council Full time

**Suffolk County Council - Countywide - Community based**:

- **£26,421 per annum (pro rata if part time)**:

- **37 hours per week - Flexible working options available**:

- **Permanent**

Are you ready for an exciting new opportunity? Join the **Suffolk Therapeutic Fostering team** as a **Family Support Practitioner** and make a real difference in the lives of families and children. You'll be based at either Saxon House, **Ipswich** or Airey Close, Oulton Broad, **Lowestoft**. This role is countywide, so you must be willing and able to travel through reasonable and suitable means.

**Are you empowered by being able to see and feel positive change? We are looking for people like you, who share the same care, support and dedication as we do.**

We are recognised as one of leading social work authorities in the UK, whose children’s services are rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted: "Services for children are of an exceptionally high standard. They are child-focused and make a positive difference to children's lives." (Ofsted, 2019). We have a well embedded practice framework to enable meaningful family focused help. ‘Signs of Safety’ enables us to do this respectfully and in collaboration with all the families, colleagues, and organisations we are working with.

**Your role and responsibilities**

This post sits within the Suffolk's Therapeutic Fostering team and contributes to the therapeutic relationship between carers, children in care, and professionals. You can expect to be an integral part of a multi-agency team working with clinical psychologists, social workers, coaches, course trainers and facilitators, and other family support practitioners.

Your main responsibility to enable foster carers to develop their therapeutic parenting skills through specialist training which you will facilitate. You will also be part of contributing to the development of the service offer to Foster carers, Kinship carers and SGO carers. The focus is very much on educating and supporting Suffolk foster carers in understanding what is beneath the behaviours some of their children may display, and to support carers both through group learning and via direct work to provide stability within the foster home.

You will have opportunities to contribute to the expansion and further developments within the team, and you could expect specific training opportunities for your role.

If you are looking for a new challenge and are passionate about improving the outcomes for children, this may be the role for you and we would warmly encourage you to contact us and apply.

**Requirements for the role**:
A relevant Level 3 Practitioner Qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant area of work.

We're looking for someone with relevant experience of facilitating groups work and undertaking direct work on a one to one basis within a family home or council setting. An understanding of developmental trauma and the impact this has on our children in care will also be important. The team values creativity, warmth and compassion.

**The team**

We provide a countywide therapeutic support service to Suffolk foster carers. The team consists of a clinical lead and a clinical psychologist who offer clinical support and advice to the team, foster carers and other professionals, as well as developing and delivering therapeutic courses and training days. They work alongside the Social Workers and Family Support Practitioners who offer direct support to foster carers, including a range of training, consultations and therapeutic courses.

The team offers Toolkit training which is a range of innovative and creative courses for foster carers, SGOs, kinship carers and adopters to assist and support them in caring for children. The Toolkit offers carers techniques and strategies for building positive relationships, responding to behaviour thoughtfully and managing their own stress levels. Other training is also offered to support foster carers, such as Therapeutic Parenting and CEOP IT Safety Training to a range of families.

The STF coaches work directly with young people to raise their self-esteem and confidence and equip them with a wide range of skills to enable them to function in wider society and offer CEOP training.

We are a busy, friendly and highly supportive unit with lots of creativity and passion in the work we do to support children and families.

**We will offer you**
- a supportive and pioneering practice where you can make a real difference while enjoying the benefits of living in Suffolk
- the opportunity to grow professionally and further your career in social care through supportive career pathways if you wish to progress and develop in front line practice as well as specific interests
- Monthly reflective supervision as well as regular team clinical supervision
- ‘Practice Development’ sessions though the year alongside the rest of the team.
