An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Receptionist to join our busy admin and clerical team within the Emergency Department.
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can work both well within a team and also can demonstrate the ability to use own initiative. You will be responsible for the registration of patients attending the department and assisting our clinical colleagues with administration duties. Attention to detail and flexibility to work across a 24 hour shift pattern is essential, shifts are as follows : 7am - 7pm or 7pm
- 7am on a rotational basis.
Knowledge of E-care and previous administration experience is advantageous of having worked in a similar environment desirable.
The Administrator will have frequent contact with patients, carers and relatives and will be expected to liaise with all members of the MDT to facilitate patient flow / booking in process is followed accordingly and whilst observing and reporting
- escalation issues where necessary. The post holder is required to multi-task in a busy ED whilst offering the highest customer care. A good standard of computer knowledge is essential.
Administrative Duties
- Register all new patients following set procedures on to the hospital information system FirstNet within e-Care.
- Generate an encounter for every patient who requires booking in to the ED and produce the correct colour wrist band.
- Be Proficient to know when to use the ‘Unknown’ booking in procedure and then be knowledgeable to be able to perform a revision and Merge if necessary, ensuring correct addressograph labels / wrist bands are reproduced so that all correct information is available to the clinicians as this can affect the Pathology lab and sample/transfusions.
- Advise ‘Expected patients’ booked into ED what the process is and hand out the explanation leaflet accordingly.
- Ensure all departs requested are processed so that encounters are undone/completed to allow onward patient care from the ‘In-transit’ or ‘Checkout tabs’
- Access Siren System via the Intranet to view and print off ERPF’s for onward journey of the patient with the ambulance records.
- To be responsible for checking the Summary Care Record via a smart card for every patient who books in under the age of 18 and add any relevant ALERTS under the CPIS.

STAFF CAR PARKING
Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 - 18:30.
For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.
