HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is building a modern, digital tax administration and runs the biggest digital operation in Government, providing digital services for 45 million individuals and 4.9 million business customers.

We are undergoing a major transformation programme, which includes a major investment in digitisation, so customers can do more for themselves online and in real time, on computers, tablets and smartphones.

As a government organisation, we need to ensure our services are accessible to everyone so that people using assistive technology can access the same information, perform the same tasks, and receive the same standard of service online as everyone else.

**Job description**:

- You will work in a team of accessibility and digital inclusion experts supporting HMRC to build digital services for everyone. We work with a wide range of teams within HMRC, across government and beyond.
- You will work with a range of stakeholders from our product, portfolio, platform and delivery teams and will be able to quickly build credibility and influence others.
- You will work on creative solutions for ensuring that digital delivery teams meet their commitments to accessibility and track progress of work across the organisation to meet accessibility standards such as the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018.**Person specification**:
In this role you will:

- Provide consultancy to and build capability in, delivery teams on how to create accessible and inclusive services.
- Carry out consulting within the context and deep understanding of User Centred Design.
- Raise the team’s profile and the importance of inclusive end-to-end services across HMRC and the public sector.
- Create and disseminate guidance and training to various professions.
- Contribute to HMRC’s assurance approach to support the Government Service Standard with regards to accessibility and digital inclusion.
- Work closely with user research, design, and customer insight functions to drive a deeper understanding of user needs and build the latest developments in practice relevant to accessibility and inclusion into our consulting practice.
- Manage the relationships with internal/external stakeholders and act as a key contact, including attending regular meetings and developing key partnerships.

**Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience**
- You can identify accessibility and digital inclusion issues and work with delivery teams to address them manage stakeholder expectations.
- You can host or moderate difficult discussions within the team or with senior stakeholders being flexible and proactive in your communication.
- You can provide advice and recommendations to stakeholders based on your significant specialist knowledge and experience.
- You have an excellent knowledge of the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, Equality Act 2010 and Web Content Accessibility guidelines.
- You have substantial experience of delivering digital services through one or more phases of delivery.
- You can understand and communicate how usability influences accessibility, and the boundary between them. You can explain how to remove barriers across digital interactions.
- You have experience of creating a collaborative, open and inclusive environment.

**Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience**

Ideally, you will also have knowledge and experience of:

- The government strategy around accessibility and digital inclusion.
- Delivering excellent written communication.
- Working in government.

**Technical skills**

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

- Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- Delivering services to the Government Service Standard.
