We are recruiting 111 / 999 Health Advisors to join #TeamIOWNHS working on both full-time permanent contracts
Working from our Emergency Operations Centre you will be the first line of support for people calling 111 or 999 who need help or advice. This is an incredibly rewarding role that allows you to really make a difference to our callers lives.
You do not need to have previous experience in health care, we are looking for qualities that ensure our staff are excellent communicators, able to remain calm and have the personal resilience to work in a high-pressured environment to deliver safe and effective care.
Once training is completed, you will join the team full time working shifts on a rota which will include days nights weekends and bank holidays. Applicants will need to be at least 18 years old due to the night working element of the role.
The role attracts an unsocial hours allowance which could potentially increase the salary to £25k per annum.
Please note that successful applicants will be working for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust but calls may be taken in collaboration with other local ambulance services.
Health Advisors are responsible for providing efficient management of emergency, urgent and non-urgent calls from patients and healthcare professionals. This will involve triaging patients using the National Clinical Decision Support system appropriately to direct the patient to the correct service.
The comprehensive training and mentoring programme will equip you with valuable skills for the 111/999 Health Advisor role. There will be 3 - 4 weeks classroom-based training to include using the Pathways Clinical support system, communication and negotiating skills. The Pathways course includes 3 assessments which must all be passed to progress on to the next stage. You must attend every training day. The classroom based training will be followed by mentoring for approximately 5 weeks before returning to the classroom for 2 days with a final assessment before sign off as a qualified Health Advisor.

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is the only integrated acute, community, mental health and ambulance health care provider in England. We serve a population of approximately 150,000 residents, making the services we offer variable and personalised with a flexible approach to our service users.
Working for our Trust brings a variety of benefits, including an onsite day nursery, cycle-to-work scheme, discounts at local businesses and gyms, and the opportunity to hire Trust’s beach hut in Ryde. We offer many flexible working opportunities, speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement for you and if it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.
