Reception Supervisor

To manage the BCPS Microbiology Reception and pre and post analytical areas of the Laboratory in accordance with pre-determined policies, procedures, priorities and in the most cost-effective manner whilst maintaining a quality service.
Working with and managing the reception supervisors and trainers, the day-to-day management of staff and resources in reception, separation and office areas of the laboratory. Organise staff rosters and adapt them to meet needs of the service, annual leave and sickness.
Assist new projects, process changes and the introduction of new innovations including IT systems and equipment.

Attend Specimen Reception meetings across BCPS sites as well as other relevant meetings including Senior and Governance meetings for Microbiology.
Ensuring appropriate arrangements for dealing with enquiries and requests from a wide variety of sources (e.g. G.P.s, consultants, other departments, patients and relatives) and for the reception of patients for consultation and tests in the Department are in place.
To write, prepare, review and comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for their section and to have the authority to advise on procedures not covered by SOPs.
To undertake workload assessment and audits to ensure that all results are reported within the agreed turnaround time.
To assist the department in measuring and monitoring turnaround times for laboratory results, and to initiate corrective action if required.
The Black Country Pathology Service (BCPS) has been formed by four Trusts looking to collaborate to optimise the use of resources. These Trusts are: The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, (DGFT), The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, (RWT), Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, (SWBH) and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, (WHT).The BCPS provides a comprehensive pathology service to a population of approximately 1.76 million. The hub laboratory is located at New Cross Hospital and hosted by The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

Maintain stock and supplies.
The provision of a high standard of administrative and clerical work within the section.
Liaison with the laboratory scientific and technical staff to ensure a smooth delivery of work for the analytical systems.
Ensuring appropriate arrangements for dealing with enquiries and requests from a wide variety of sources (e.g. G.P.s, consultants, other departments, patients and relatives) and for the reception of patients for consultation and tests in the Department are in place.
Updating and distributing ward instructions and notes to all Junior Medical Staff on the use of the laboratory services.
Assisting in the recruitment and selection of reception staff.
Conducting agreed competency and proficiency tests and ensure that all staff within the area conform to the rules of confidentiality regarding the release of information and patients’ results.
Implement policies and procedures for own area and to propose changes through the Clinical Governance meetings.
The monitoring of workflow patterns and development of procedures to accommodate any necessary changes.
Use of Trust Patient Administration System to check/cross reference patient data with laboratory information management system.
Use of pathology information management system to enter patient test request and result information ensuring accuracy of data entered.
To comply with local and national policies for the safe, secure and confidential processing and storage of patient and other laboratory information.
