**The team**
What is the research & development team? The team contains a broad mix of skills, knowledge & experience in manufacturing our products. The team has expertise in the specifics of our products. We work closely with our product inventors to ensure the products are developed and matured before transferring to our manufacturing facilities. The Innovation lab is a function within the R&D team, it has expertise in designing & making product moulds & equipment using a range of 3D printing machines, vacuum formers & 3 Axis routers and is developing its capability by investing in a 5 Axis machining centre and associated CAD/CAM design & post processing system. We are looking for someone to be part of this problem-solving team, who is solution-based and thrives on challenges. We pride ourselves on engagement with our peers so good people skills would be a must. What the role will require: Someone with a can-do attitude and passion for this area of the business, is highly motivated and able to bring a wealth of machining knowledge to the team.

**Responsibilities**:

- To programme, Operate & routinely maintain the equipment used by the team
- Select & Maintain all associated machine tools
- Advice & guidance on designs to improve the manufacturability of any component, mould or tool
- Attend various meetings and complete any assigned actions
- As necessary, undertake further training and development
- Comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policies

**Required Skills & Experience**:
Has significant knowledge and experience within a machine shop / CNC machining environment and has ideally served an apprenticeship and associated training courses at BTEC or alternative NVQ levels. We require someone who can take the lead in establishing the machining capability within the team and has the associated tooling expertise to support all of the requirements and needs of the organisation. Has a proven background in operating & programming various CNC Machines, including 5 Axis machining centres (we are investing in a new Mazak CV5-500), and can use relevant software tools such as Solid Works / Solid CAM to create new programmes from the associated drawings. We also require someone capable of interpreting engineering drawings and is fully conversant in selecting the correct tooling to achieve optimum performance from the machine. The role requires someone with a tooling maker background and, ideally, someone with mould design & manufacturing experience. This ideally includes injection mould tooling using a range of materials. We also expect to continuously seek opportunities for overall Process, Product & business improvement. Is competent in communicating clearly and precisely to all related stakeholders. Has a passion for doing things right the first time every time.
- Has a proven track record in Operating & Programming CNC Machines, including 5 Axis. Use of a Mazak advantageous
- Can programme on the machine using Mazatrols as well as use software tools such as Solidworks / Solid CAM to create new programmes from the associated drawings
- Has a Tool making / Mould tool background
- Significant Experience in working ' with a multitude of materials and selecting the correct cutting tools and the associated parameters
- Passion for guiding the team to influence the design to improve the manufacturability of any component or tool
- Able to read & interpret technical drawings
- Ability to train others within the team on the operation and use of equipment
- Keen to learn new skills and operate other equipment such as 3D printers and Vacuum formers as the need arises
- Able to effectively plan and prioritise activities / own workload
- Ability to present data effectively
- Sound understanding of Health and Safety practises
- Exercises sound latitude and technical judgement in deciding work methods
- Has a continuous improvement mindset
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Has ideally gained some qualifications at either BTEC or NVQ Level
