Your new role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Data Science & Laboratory professional to join us as we embark upon one of the biggest digital transformation programmes in our organisation.

Reporting into the Chief Data Officer you will work across National Highways, is customers and stakeholders to understand where data science can create value and to exploit data to create compelling evidence-based and actionable data stories to drive improveddecisions making.

You will act as professional head for data science and as our corporate ambassador at industry level to influence statute and legislation.

This role can be based in any of our primary office locations (Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Bedford, Guildford, Bristol or Exeter) and offers flexible working arrangements.

What you’ll be leading on
- Delivering Connected Services for the Strategic Road Network enabling in car communication by 2025
- Setting the National Highways data science and Digital Lab strategy
- Evolving a range of data analysis tools and techniques to explore and visualise the data to present the 'story’ in a meaningful way, and to a range of technical and non-technical audiences
- Defining a framework for quality assurance within performance analysis
- Providing assurance of the fitness for purpose of data and analysis
- Working with project teams to procure, implement and validate appropriate analytics tools against identified performance measurement frameworks
- Champion data science and performance analysis with National Highways and Industry stakeholders
- Provide leadership and direction across a programme of multidisciplinary data science projects, managing resources to ensure delivery
- Act as a role model for data science & performance to other data scientists and performance analysts and champion adoption of best practice

To be successful you’ll need
- A proven background within a similar data science / laboratory position
- Demonstrable experience of leading large teams to successfully deliver large, complex digital transformation programmes
- Able to communicate the business benefit of data science products, championing and governing these across the organisation
- Innovative and creative you will have the ability to communicate relevant, compelling stories in the most appropriate medium
- Able to give complex recommendations at a tactical and strategic level and present analysis and visualisations in clear ways to communicate complex messages
- Excellent collaboration, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills
