**Job Title**:Event Day Assistant
**Location**: The Marigold, 187 Brookvale Road, Birmingham, B6 7AJ
**Contract Type**: Flexible / Self Employed Contract (Seasonal Job - the contract length is not fixed)
**Shift Hours**:Typically 6 to 8 hours per shift
**Hourly rate**: National Minimum Wage
**Days**:Weekdays and weekends, including bank holidays and other school term holidays
**Timings**:Shift Based*

**Typical shift timings**:
9am to 4pm / 5pm (daytime events)
4pm / 5pm to 11:30pm (evening events)
9:30am to 6pm (all day events)

However, the timings can vary depending on the type of event.

**Recruitment Process**:
**Stage 2 - **If you pass the interview, you will be required to attend a training day (unpaid) at The Marigold.
**Stage 3 -** If you complete the training day, you will be invited to an event day shift, and you will have the opportunity to carry out a paid trial to see if you are suitable for the position.
**Stage 4 -** Once you have completed a trial, we will decide whether you are suitable for the position or not and we will let you know. If you are successful, you will officially be part of the Event Day Assistant team and shortly after that, you will start to get offered shifts.

We will be issuing start dates between May 2023 and by the last week of July 2023, so if you are unavailable to start until the Summer Holidays begin, please continue to apply, and specify this in your cover note. The season will be busier July onwards and more shifts will be available henceforth.

**Please note**:

- We cannot guarantee how many shifts you may get offered. Some weeks may be busier than others where we require more staff, but some weeks may be quieter where we do not require as much staff.
- You will not be expected to attend every event that takes place at the venue, hence why we have a rota system in place and will advise you of what shifts you are required for.
- You cannot expect to be placed on every shift and if you request to be placed on additional shifts, we cannot always grant such requests.
- If you are successful for the role, you will be required to adhere to ‘The Marigold Uniform & Equipment Policy’ and pay for your own shirt, which we will supply to you. The uniform will be discussed further at your interview.
- Whilst there is always catering at events that the client arranges, we recommend that the event staff bring their own packed lunch.

**Job Advert**

The Marigold is a premium wedding venue in an easily accessible location within the heart of Birmingham. They are looking for a number of Event Day Assistants to join the Event Day team for the upcoming wedding season. The weddings that take place at The Marigold are primarily of a South Asian background, however there are many other cultural backgrounds that book the venue for their day, so you will get to see and learn about a range of different wedding customs and experience the beautiful start of two families coming together.

The Event Day Assistant team will work alongside the Event Coordinator to help with the running of events and ensure a perfect wedding is carried out.

This is a flexible seasonal job with some quiet and some very busy periods, so it is perfect for students, or anyone who is looking for a side job to earn some additional money.

You will be self-employed and will be responsible for your own taxes - if you are not sure how to do this, we can provide you with some information and guidance.

**Duties may include but is not limited to the following**:

- Arriving at the venue ahead of the wedding start time to set up
- Following orders from the Event Coordinator, Floor Supervisor and/or the Venue Manager
- Checking the venue to make sure that everything is clean and ready in time for guest arrival
- Completing table settings such as folding and placing napkins in the correct manner
- Putting out favours and menu cards on the tables
- Setting up reception glasses if required
- Setting up the tea & coffee station if required
- Making and serving the tea & coffee to the guests if required
- Tying chair ribbons if required
- Preparing snacks and drinks for the bridal room
- Attending to the bride and groom and their immediate family ahead of guest arrival
- Standing at the entrance doors, ready to greet and direct the guests as they come in
- Assisting the bride and groom and their family for their grand entrances
- Reporting to the cleaner if there is any confetti or petals etc. scattered in reception areas to clean after entrances have been made, and helping them if required
- Inspection of washrooms and reporting to the cleaner if required
- Attend to guests throughout the event and ensure they have what they need
- Provide good customer service to the guests and maintain the reputation of The Marigold
- Cutting and distributing the wedding cake if required
