Positive Support Worker

Cornwall, United Kingdom Cornwall Council Full time

We have a new and exciting opportunity for a passionate, committed individual to join a team of specialist support workers responding to children and young people presenting who experience mental health crisis and social care crisis. The team will work in partnership with families and carers to develop strategies to help them to move on from crisis.

Using evidence based interventions, the team will provide a flexible wraparound support to prevent the risk of family and placement breakdown. Children and young people will be supported at home and in their community to develop a positive self-view and emotional resilience through one to one interventions. Families and carers will develop confidence and resilience by learning skills and strategies to deescalate and safely care for children in their own environment leading to improved outcomes and help towards their recovery journey.

With comprehensive training and ongoing professional development opportunities, Positive Support Workers will work closely with the professional network around children and their families and will demonstrate a child centred, trauma informed approach to the work.

This team is part of a new integrated approach to responding to the needs of children in crisis through the Multi Agency Rapid Response service. It is a creative and innovative service which aims to minimise the need for hospital admission or social care placements by working in a multi-disciplinary way to strengthen the network around the child. There will be a need to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and overnight depending on the needs of individual children and their carers.

For more information about the role please contact Kate Wilson on 07483 340 825.

Fairness and inclusion are at the heart of our vision for Cornwall. In order to best serve our communities, we are striving to achieve a diverse workforce that is inclusive of all backgrounds, cultures and identities; e.g. race, disability, sex, gender, age, religion and sexual orientation. We are an equal opportunities and Disability Confident employer, and we will assess applicants on their merits.

Cornwall Council is committed to safeguarding and following safer recruitment principles to help make sure our staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children, young people and adults at risk. It’s a vital part of creating a safe and positive environment and making a commitment to keeping all service users safe from harm.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role has been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g. from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.
