Senior Residential Care Worker

We are seeking *senior residential care workers* in Prenton, Birkenhead for a reputable client.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children in the home at all times.
- Act as the lead staff member on shifts and ensure that shifts are well planned to meet the needs of individual children and young people.
- Support key worker/s and act as lead key worker for one of the children in the home.
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments and written records are kept updated and accurate.
- Deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager.
- Work as part of a management team to ensure the highest levels of care for children and young people.
- Manage challenging and risk-based behaviours and supporting other team members.
- Ensure that all carers are working in line with individual risk assessments, care plans, Williamson Care policies and procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Effective communication with other professionals and sharing relevant information.
- Provide outstanding levels of care for children living in the home.
- Work as part of a team to ensure children and young people are supported with their health, education, having fun and staying safe.
- Supporting children and young people who have experienced trauma and whose behaviour may be challenging as a result of their childhood experiences.
- To maintain the confidentiality of children and young people in line with company policies and GDPR legislation.
- Raise concerns when worried about a child or young person, and ensure accurate recordings at all times.
- Completing daily paperwork in line with policies, procedures and legislation, and ensuring that other administrative tasks are completed to a high standard.
- Contribute to reports and meetings about children living in the home and work as part of a multi-agency team.
**Personal Qualities which are important for supporting children and young people in residential care**:
- **Patience** - you will need to be patient and understand that sometimes progress is made in small steps.
- **Passion** to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable young people - you will need to be a caring person and form positive relationships with the children you will be caring for.
- **Forgiveness** - our children will need more than a second chance and may communicate complex and difficult thoughts and feelings through their behaviour.
- **Positivity** - we want the children in our home to be recognised for their achievements and successes, and they need carers who can see and highlight their positive qualities, as they may not see this in themselves.
- **Self-reflection and honesty** - sometimes adults make mistakes, and we want carers that will reflect on their own practice to improve the care they deliver. Our young people will respond to carers who are honest and genuine.
- **Humour** - knowing appropriate times to use humour can help young people reduce their stresses or anxieties.
- **Resilience** - carers need to be able to manage stressful incidents and behaviours as well as support young people who may have experienced significant abuse in their lives. You will be fully supported by the management team and Williamson Care will support with staff counselling on a confidential basis.
**Essential**:
- Full UK Driving License
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare
- Ability to work on a rota basis to meet the needs of the home (including overnights, weekends, and bank holidays)
- At least 12 months experience working within residential childcare
- Ability to work 24-hour shifts that include a sleep-in
- Commitment to safeguard vulnerable children
- Honesty and integrity
- IT and literacy skills to complete daily paperwork and update care plans
**Desirable**:
- Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service. (An Enhanced DBS check will be carried out should you not already have one).
**Job Types: Full-time, Permanent**
**Pay**: £13-£13.50 per hour, £60 per sleep-in. Potential to work overtime.
**Working hours**: Average of 165 hours per month on a rota basis, plus sleep-ins.
**Schedule**: Day shift 9.30am to 11pm & 7am to 10am on a rota of 1 on, 2 off, plus sleep-ins
**Sleep-ins**: these will begin once the first child or young person joins the home and will be shared between 3 staff, once the home is full. Initially it will be 10 sleep-ins on average per month, moving to 7 on average per month.
