Legal Knowledge Engineer - Document Automation

Overview of the Forms and Precedents Operations Team:
The Forms and Precedents Operations team sits within Global Forms and Precedents, reporting to the Global Head of Forms and Precedents Editorial Operations, supporting the creation, updating, technical implementation and production/publishing of key documents utilised by lawyers on a day to day basis. Whether it be a fillable official form, an agreement for sale, or automated will, the team is responsible for over 35,000 individual content items, as well as supporting commentary and other content - published across individual products online through via dedicated portals, via Lexis+® and other Lexis platforms, or in print.

Main purpose of the role:
As a Legal Knowledge Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing and maintaining the underlying templates for our automated Smart Precedents, conducting technical QA, and working effectively with an international team. You will assist your manager in delivering the existing Lexis Smart Precedents product to subscribers and in developing new automations.

Key responsibilities include:

- Supporting the maintenance and delivery of high usage complex automations.
- Working with team to maintain existing and develop new automated content for customers of Lexis®Smart Precedents.
- Updating content and marking-up underlying templates in line with updates to the source PSL-authored precedents.
- Reviewing Smart Precedents to ensure that they meet our House Style/Standardisation Guidelines.
- Conducting quality assurance checks on updated/new automated precedents.
- Documenting existing/reviewed work.
- Reporting progress, updates, difficulties/blockers to your line manager and to more senior stakeholders as required.
- Working with your line manager to improve existing processes to make them more efficient, and to document and implement all improvements effectively.

You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

- Law degree or legal qualification (such as GDL).
- Transactional/Private Client legal work experience.
- Experience working with Legal Technology, such as Document Automation.
- Experience using Document automation technology (such as HotDocs, Exari etc) desirable.
- Attention to technical detail.
- Ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines.
- Computer literacy beyond basic MS Office proficiency, including: comfort in utilising Excel for data gathering; willingness to embrace cloud-based collaboration tools; and a general willingness to learn new tech and use new software and tools.
- Pro-activity in assisting the business to highlight potential problems before they arise.
- Process-focus: able to follow establish processes, suggest improvements, and implement.

Editorial Operations Core Skills

Technical
- Proficiency with MS Office software
- Proven ability to learn new systems and underlying functionality such as XML/Proficient in editing XML content
- Technical Adaptability: able to pick up new systems and software

- Confident verbal communication skills
- Excellent standard of written English
