Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Catalyst

The University of Manchester has been awarded an EPSRC Place-Based Impact Acceleration Account grant to create a North-West Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Catalyst (IBIC). Industrial biotechnology (IB) is in a golden age of opportunity, bolstered by the field’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the urgent need to tackle the global climate emergency. IB will provide a way to replace society’s addiction to fossil fuels with sustainable ways to biomanufacture everyday products such as medicines, chemicals and food. The strategic aim of IBIC is to leverage our science, research, innovation and teaching asset base to build a large-scale cluster of high-value activity to drive regional growth and create a more productive, more R&D intensive community that benefits business and residents across the region and helps deliver a low carbon economy. The Catalyst is led by The University of Manchester and has research spokes at Manchester Metropolitan, Salford and Liverpool Universities as well as a breadth of interconnected anchor partners that span businesses (SMEs to corporates), commercial organisations, accelerators and investors across the North-West region.
The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Catalyst (IBIC) is now seeking to recruit a Project Support Officer to work closely with the Director, Prof. Aline Miller, to help support and co-ordinate activities.
The post will be based in the Research and Business Engagement Team.
The IBIC Project Officer will ensure that the project leadership team and members of the centre receive support in the delivery of strategic tasks. The IBIC Project Officer will be the primary point of contact on a wide range of administrative aspects, including coordinating activity across project technical areas, project meetings, review meetings, resource monitoring, recruitment, organising engagement events and workshops, internal and external communications and dissemination activities.
