**The Role**

The role will be expected to ensure the UK Space Regulator meets its obligation and objectives, including managing associated financial liabilities and undertaking compliance and monitoring activities. The post holder is expected to lead development of appropriate licence conditions as necessary.

This work will include a high level of engagement with stakeholders, particularly with legal advisors, industry, and government.

**Core Accountabilities**
- Communicating closely with industry, including at a senior level, to explain the approach and requirements of the regime and setting firm, clear expectations throughout licensing and oversight
- Developing and refining the approach, principles, and ways of working with other teams on licensing and oversight activities, promoting this to colleagues involved and proposing and influencing policy where required
- Liaising, as necessary, with legal and other relevant specialists across the CAA.
- Drafting licences and any additional conditions
- Presenting cases to Government for Secretary of State consent or consultation, identifying, and managing any potential issues or areas of concern with government colleagues well ahead of time
- Ensuring compliance and monitoring and enforcement activities are undertaken
- Liaising with Governments of other United Nations Member States on launching state and liability issues
- Answering public queries on relevant matters
- Undertaking oversight and monitoring activity in accordance with licence permissions and conditions
- Considering all enforcement options available, and issues or concerns that might lead to any level of enforcement activity, either on a regulatory or criminal basis, as appropriate
- Providing briefs for the Head of Licensing and Oversight on relevant regulatory issues

**To be considered for the role you will need to have**:

- Experience of working within a licensing or regulatory function
- Ability to interpret and comply with statutory requirements
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- An enquiring mind with a strong investigatory approach
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to devise effective approaches to meet new and complex requirements
- Ability to see the bigger picture to identify risks, manage dependencies and drive progress on common goals
- Ability to gather and interpret complex information from a variety of sources
- Proven ability to work with tight deadlines
- Proven experience of stakeholder engagement, preferably across government and industry/academia
- Ability to communicate widely and at a senior level, both orally and in writing
- Ability to audit or inspect an operator against established procedures and/or requirements
- Ability to produce material to specified standards and time scales
- Ability to investigate and reach justified conclusions to an acceptable level
- Ability to persuade others, including at senior levels, to modify thinking and procedures
- Self-reliant and able to take initiative but able to identify when to refer to others or escalate
