4Recruitment Services are seeking to recruit a Senior Care Assistant to support our client based in Wakefield.

The role of Senior Care Assistant is to work within the Residential Care Unit and provide person-centred care and support for the service users within this unit. To provide day to day direction and advice to care staff also on shift.

This post includes working on a rota system including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays. This role is 5 days per week, 7.5 hours each day.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE**:

- Accountable to all members of the Management Team on duty at all times of the working shift.
- To ensure the day to day running of front line services.
- To manage and safely administer service users’ medications.
- To enable the service users in the unit to maintain or regain their independence, individuality and dignity.
- To offerperson centred support in the maintenance of an individual’s physical needs relating to washing, bathing, dressing, continence, nutritional needs and mobility.
- To fully appreciate the emotional needs of service users within the home who often feel a loss of integrity, identity or some independence.
- To offer recreation and stimulation to service users, as appropriate.
- To have concern for the total care environment including some domestic aspects which arise during the course of the day/night.
- To be aware of fire and other safety precautions in the unit and to respond in the event of a fire or other emergency.
- To communicate the needs of service users to management and maintain good relations between service users, staff and visitors to the unit.
- To be involved in all aspects of review and decision making in relation to the people in their care.
- To attend service user reviews and staff meetings.
- To oversee key working groups, staff supervision
- To utilise appropriate information and communication technology to ensure the provision of prompt and efficient services and information to service users, partner agencies and other stakeholders and maintain accurate and complete records.
- To participate fully in supervision, appraisal, development and training as required.

**ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Enhanced DBS
- NVQ 2 in Social Care.
- An understanding of Safe manual handling techniques
- NVQ 3 in Social Care or working towards
- Safeguarding Adults.
- The safe custody and storage of medication.
- The knowledge of infection control and the importance of it within the unit.
- Understand Data protection
- Significant experience of working with older adults and an understanding of their differing complex care needs
- Physical capability to undertake the tasks associated with a caring role (including safe moving and handling of residents).
- The Ability to read, write & record accurately
- The ability to communicate clearly with service users, colleagues and managers
- Able to work as part of a team or individually and take part in staff meeting, supervision & appraisals
- Be sensitive to the needs of older adults and be able to assess and support the complexed needs of older adults.
